Gents, I am just reviewing my "Holmes-Cooney" tape from 1982....... I love this fight of the 80s..... However, in round 10, Howard Cosell stated that 'Joe Bugner' made a remark that: "Frazier's left-hook could hurt you, but Cooney's hook goes right through you." C'mon, what the hell is that?? NOW! I agree that Frazier had a better timed and planned hook shot than Cooney had, since Cooney was accused of telegraphing his hook shot, while Frazier let it go without warning.... But the question is, is Cooney's hook more devastating than Frazier's hook shot in both men's peak yrs??? :huh MR.BILL:bbb
What kills me is, Bugner never fought Cooney..... SO! How would he know what Cooney's hook / power was like? It doesn't add up........ MR.BILL
haha, go big george. anyway, to the thread frazier all day, all day. heavier, more compact, threw it more often and with more variety, used it to break down bodies as well as jaws. cooney's maybe had more one punch power but that's it
Exactly. More 1 punch power=Cooney left hook Better Left hook= Frazier That 1 punch power doesn't mean anything though because a champion will see it comming from a mile away, no variety with it either.
In terms of effectiveness and variation. Clearly Frazier has the better hook. Cooney has more power, though.
I agree...... Shot 4 shot, Cooney packed a bigger wallop, but Frazier's hook was more precise / skilled... MR.BILL
for comparitive purposes i'd put cooney's hook in the same category as tua's: devasting as **** when he lands it but it's good for only one thing
I agree, folks.. Frazier's hook was better schooled, while Cooney's was more powerful in a "One" type of shot sense..... MR.BILL
Joe Frazier threw hooks like he was chopping his way through a rain forest with a machete. You can't compete with Joe for a hook.
True..... Cooney also owned a long pawing jab that was effective to a degree.... Frazier's jab sucked weenie........ :admin MR.BILL:deal
