Man I hate typing DM's name. Have to check the spelling several times to get it right. Anyway, this is NOT a thread about who you think would win between the two or a thread about who was actually better from an ability standpoint. This is about who had the better career there and better legacy? Which of the two should rate higher?

At light heavyweight, Dariusz has the better legacy. Overall, Jones does. But each time Jones fights he hurts his legacy.

Had he retired at 48-1 after beating Ruiz, Jones might be rated the best of them all. I remember at that moment, I was on a boxing site with Joe Rein who had Robinson #1 all-time and Jones #2. But the Tarver fights began his downfall.

The victory over John Ruiz or whatever cruiserweight bouts he acquires now have no bearing on his light heavyweight legacy

Well, at light heavyweight, Jones was something like 19-6 and at light heavyweight Dariusz was 47-1 with like 23 or 24 successful title defenses.

I'd take 47-1 with a record number of title defenses over 19-6.

He was also the first between the two of them to beat Virgil Hill which more or less gave him right to lineage or in a round about way.

    Darius who?

Most would have RJJ as a lock to be an all-time great, DM isn't even a contemporary great and benefits greatly from the fight between the two never happening.

You mustn't think much of the likes of SRR, Moore, Charles and co.

Why Jones did not take winnable fights with Darius or Collins is mystifying. He was the first of a long line of "selective greats" that we have had ever since. Floyd, Oscar, etc. It really hurts jones LHW legacy, but he is not the only culprit.

Hardly know anything about DM, but with Jones at LHW it wasn't primarily who he beat but how. Beating Hill probably wasn't such a big deal in itself but doing it with a single right hand lead to body... Jones was just at a different planet back then. Just crunching the numbers won't accurately reflect that.

Pound for pound and across the board? Absolutely.. At light heavyweight and ONLY light heavyweight? I'm not so sure.

Both Jones and DM have pointed fingers at each other over the years for why those fights never came off. I know DM wanted as little to do with Don King as possible.
