sorry lighter punching guys. When I am tired I leave words out of what I write. Light punching guys. Tubbs and Dokes. were quick, but they didn't have the punch to go with it. Being fast is easier if you pittypat but landing a good Hearns right hand with speed is hard.

Yeah, of those that are usually mentioned in these fastest hwts lists, Tyson is probably the only one that you can say for sure, had the great punching power to go with the handspeed though Patterson had a underrated leaping left hook and Sanders, if you include him as one of the fastest, also had good power.

Tyson threw plenty of fast pitter-pat punches too.

Tillis was fast, but his speed didn't stand out like Page or Dokes. Mitch Green was also very fast.

I always felt the 3 fastest pair of hands in any order you want is Patterson, Ali and Jimmy Ellis

Holmes weighed 209 when he won the title over Norton.
Ali was 210 1/2 when he beat Liston.
Patterson was 182 1/2 when he won the title.

Dokes weighed 216 when he won the title off Weaver.
When Dokes dropped Lynn Ball with a hook so fast the ref didn't see it he was 212.
Tubbs was 229 when he beat Greg Page.

So Tubbs and Dokes were heavier than all 3 guys you mentioned yet you labelled them lighter.

Dokes was indeed faster than Holmes even if he didn't carry his speed as long into the contest.

That is true but then Green was also the perfect example of someone who threw fast pittypat punches.Even with the loud grunting that accompanied the fast combinations it was clear that there was little force behind the punches.

That would work. Dokes did develop some very decent power tho by the time he fought Weaver.

that was one of the first fights I taped. My memory is not as great as it used to be. Is that the fight with Joey Curtis as the ref. Same ref who did the Bramble vs. Crawley in Feb of 86. Dokes jumped on him.. I met Dokes in 1989or 1990. He was a big guy.

That's the one. The fight smelt a bit be it from Don King shenanigans or Curtis being gun shy for obvious reasons.
