Hey Pea, JT. My Uncle organised for me to actually meet Michael Dokes in a pub in Sydney around 1983 when I was visiting the big smoke on holidays as a 17 year old kid ( I know, I shouldnt have been there as I was under age ;) ). I still have a photo of " Dynamite " training on the heavy bag that my Uncle got him to autograph for me.

Dokes seemed like a pretty charismatic kind of guy and according to my Uncle " Dynamite " was unbelievably fast with his hands when working on the heavy bag, speed ball and in sparring.

He was another bloke who the fast lane got the better of unfortunately. As there was bugger all cocaine in Oz in those days Dokes was in good nick but evidently Las Vegas was all wrong for him.

    Cheers Guys.

Now I remember the Don King issue once you said it. Funny the stuff we forget. I think it was stopped early in the first fight. but Dokes was really working him over. Weaver had that in him to sometimes get hurt and take big punches. Later with Bonecrusher, he was hit clean.

Yeah, Green was a bit crude, didn't have that training to reach the next level. And he wasn't floored in his boxing career. Tillis could flow both southpaw and orthodox, and if they had found out about that allergy problem earlier, possible world champ. Always liked Donald, but he couldn't get to that next step.

Sorry i meant to reply to this much earlier. Dokes was charismatic for sure with the roses, designing, sewing, champagne baths, cooking and the likes. Blistering handspeed too. I think he edged out Page and Holmes in his era, for a few rounds anyway. He definitely slowed noticeably after a bit.

I think Roy Jones was probably faster than Patterson.

Sure he was but...not at a HW. Ruiz was 'pan fed' Roy. With styles, Roy had the tools going in to best Ruiz via decision. I'm sure all the RJJ 'nuthuggers' wanted a stoppage; not to be.
Although eras need to be factored in, a 190's Patterson vs. a 190's Roy would have been all wrong for Jones.
Patterson UD or late stoppage. The Floyd left hook could have ended the proceedings and NO WAY Jones stops Patterson, NO WAY.
Lastly, eras aside, Floyd would have, WIDELY, UD'd Ruiz.
