Which win do you rate higher....Louis win over Galento or Lewis win over Tua?

I rate the win over Galento higher. Galento was at least equal to Tua in size, speed, skill and chin and Louis disposed of him in 4 rounds while Lewis had to settle for a 12 round decision over his version of Galento.

Louis'. He fought a man thirty pounds heavier than him and knocked him out.
I'd consider Lewis' win higher if it was against a prime Tua.

    How are the claims dubious?

The Tua that fought Lewis was a lot more sluggish and less refined training wise. Lennox still put on a masterclass victory, but it wasn't a prime Tua.

Louis handled his competition better but Galento was not more skilled than Tua. He was sloppy and undisciplined. Had he been a serious individual he would have been a better contender and maybe even championship material considering he had the tools. Tua as good as he was imo was way too out of shape for Lewis and for some odd reason he just didn’t go after it and looked scared the whole fight. Which was off for him. Idk what his opinion of the fight was years later would like to know what happened to him that day.

The only dubious claim being made is a bum like Tua being compared to the GOAT.

Tua was the number 1 contender and was 37-1 with that one loss being a very close decision to the very talented Ibeabuchi. Tua was known as monster puncher/finisher and considered a real threat to Lewis.

To put it into perspective Lewis was considered only a slight favourite over Tua where as Louis was a heavy favourite over Galento.

Build-up and event. On June 28, 1939 in Yankee Stadium in the Bronx in New York City, Galento fought for the heavyweight championship of the world against the 'Brown Bomber' Joe Louis. Louis was a heavy favorite and "1 to 8 in the betting".

Las Vegas odds-makers have made Lewis favourite to beat Tua in the scheduled 12-round bout.

However, most are saying that this will be a tough fight for Lewis, and that it is important he does not under-estimate Tua's abilities.

Legendary trainer Eddie Futch said: "Lennox Lewis is a very good fighter and David Tua has got the style to give him a real test.

I don't see how anyone could possibly argue Tua wasn't prime. DP has already slapped up the expectations of the day and exactly how Tua and the bout was viewed.

Lewis obviously played a huge part in how Tua looked in the ring and how he fought. Even granite chinned competitors can be stifled at times by the sheer power of the incoming. Lewis used all his advantages to the fullest. He boxed his ears off.

Tua was about the same weight in his fight prior to and after Lewis. I hardly think he dogged training in his first world title fight.

I'd take the victory over Louis' as Lennox totally controlled a very dangerous contender where as Louis had to come off the canvas to beat a pretty limited fighter.

In my opinion, Tua is a greater success, but both victories are highly overrated. Tua was a better fighter than Galento, but he was as incompatible with Lewis as Spinks was with Tyson and did not want to fight. Galento tried and even caught the champion, for which he paid a fine. Tua didn't try.

It was a prime Tua. Yes, he was in disgraceful shape but Galento wasn't exactly Adonis either.
