It is tough to put into perspective. The most significant win over Duran was Ray in Nov. 1980, but the greatest win was Hearns in June 1984.

No excuses. The Laing fight obviously he came in poor condition, Benitez he was in shape at least physically. Hearns fight he did come in drained and it was his fault not an excuse on my part. Does Hearns simply destroy the Duran who fought Barkley? Not a chance.

Hearns for the total obliteration of Duran.

....and Laing for giving a boxing masterclass (its amazing what he could do when he was not on the herb!)

If 'greatest' victory is considered to be 'most emphatic or spectacular' then it is Hearns but if it is 'most historically significant or important' in terms of the fight's status, it has to be Leonard's No Mas win. Seems people are mostly judging it as the former and not the latter.

I wasnt that impressed with Laing,he threw lots of feints but rarely followed up on them and Duran was too out of shape to do anything about it.Laing won, but almost by default imo.

Duran had fought just 20 days before the De Jesus fight I doubt he was significantly out of shape,I'd say in better condition than the 33years old version Hearns fought.

technically he was 32 when he fought Hearns. One day later he turned 33.

He probably just wasn't in the shape he needed to be for someone like DeJesus with such a short notice. Was he still better, in his early 20's and at his best weight, than the older Duran at 154? I'd say so, but the manner of Hearn's victory still cinches it for me.
