Drank hard, ate hard, was damned hard, but trained easy.
Despite not being the hardest of trainers and looking like a beer barrel on legs, i am sure he would be a handy fella to have on your side in a battle, a backward step would not be made by Galento.

I am an ultra runner in my spare time, and I once offered to replicate Rocky Marciano's alleged training regime, to prove that it was possible.

I am basically a welterweight, so my doing it would not have satisfied the naysayers!

Where is the part that you sparred world class opposition? Training camp is not all conditioning... not even half of it.

I don't find any volume of training unbelievable.
Athletes can condition themselves to do incredible amounts of physical training.

But some of the feats of strength and speed are a simply BS.
When you hear about these old timer guys running 10 second 100 yards or modern elite heavyweights doing 500 pound bench presses, it is simply bullsh!t

Terry Norris used to spar 15 rounds, every day.

Mayorga cut down to 10 Marlboro's and 10 Coronas a day for Moseley. Didn't help.

I don't have the articles right now, but here you can see comments about it, Sinister, the user at sherdog, is a trainer at the legendary Johhny Tocco's gym, so he knows his thing and also John Scully who has been involved with the top boxers of the 80's and 90's would verify that Norris was indeed in brutal sparring sessions every day.

Toney did at least one camp that was 100% sparring and Maravilla would complete camps without sparring until a couple weeks before the fight, if I remember correctly.

Obviously I have never sparred world class opposition.

I am just saying that I could replicate what is claimed for these fighters in terms of road work.

    No problem.

    Chill.

Talking like that, they're gonna drag you out in public and stone you to death like they did Perry.

Running is running and is great for runners. I love running and watching track.

However, a world class fighter needs extremely focussed work against top rate partners in order to sharpen his skills. If he is over-fatigued from conditioning, that is not going to happen to its most ideal level. And that will cost him more than having a few extra pounds. There will always be James Toney's achieving a lot in the sport. The counter is all the gym rats and conditioned athletes who can't make a dent in the sport.
