This is a good post buddy i like this one , i think Taylor 1 nips it , he came in and dethrowned the man who beat all the men @160 when Hopkins was considered un beatable .

it took him 5 minutes to recover, had he only want to take a point off he should have let only 2 minutes before fighting again. Hopkins lost the last 4 rounds and could have lost rounds 13-15 had it been 15 rounds..

Hopkins was in 'freefall' when Calzaghe fought him? This freefall being demonstrated by his top five P4P ranking, dominating Tarver (ring champion and considered the man at LHW, Hopkins was underdog in the fight) and dominating Wright (still considered a P4P contender by many at the time)?

    That's some 'freefall'.

Clearly Hopkins was on the decline, however Joe only won that fight as he threw more punches however many were unaffective and not landing. Like when he beat Peter Manfredo, that TKO should never have happened but the ref thought the punches were landing and being effective. In every god damn way Joe is a fraud beyond belief, imagine what a prime hopkins would have done to him? Or a prime Jones infact, hell even a prime Eubank - i should have known from the Eubank fight where this fraud would end up.

Explain how that is clear? Sandwiched around the Calzaghe fights you have clear and dominant wins over a Ring Champion (a fight that Hopkins moved up two divisions for), a fighter ranked in the top three P4P by Ring Magazine and a linear middleweight champion ranked in the top six or seven P4P. A lot of people would consider those three to be amongst Hopkins' best five wins of his career and he didn't lose more than three rounds on any card in any of them!

Where are you seeing this clear decline?

And what on earth does Peter Manfredo have to do with anything?!

None of the wins were in any way "impressive".

Taylor and Calzaghe only won because they had better work rate and stamina than a guy approaching his mid 40's - what's impressive about that? :think

Calzaghes win was much clearer than both Taylor wins although all 3 fights it was clear that Hopkins lost.

But in terms of the style of winning the fight I'll have to go with Taylor, who beat Hpkins from the outside.

In my opinion the Hopkins that beat Trinidad or even de la hoya would have beaten Calzaghe. Maybe I should have been clearer for you, I believe his workrate is on the decline, Winky and Tarver were made for hopkins style, whereas a 43 year old Hopkins would not be able to match a Calzaghe workrate, which did enough to clinch it for the judges.

I used peter manfredo to point out the fact that Calzaghe's workrate can make his punches seem effective, whereas they aren't.

All in all Taylors 1st win was a lot more impressive.

Hopkins was still a top fighter, although old, when Calzaghe fought him. I don't blame Calzaghe for not fighting Hopkins earlier as Hopkins was the one who pulled out of a fight in 2002-03, mad at the money Don King was going to take out of his purse.

Jones, well that's a different case.
