Who had the most title fights prior to winning the title?

    I am sure this has been done before, but oh well I am lazy today! Getting ready to watch Chartchai Chionoi vs Efren Torres.

    Torres fought for the title and lost to Accavallo in 66. He then lost to Chionoi in 68, before wresting the belt from Chionoi in 69.

    I am sure this is low on the list but it got me thinking how many guys lost multiple title fights before finally winning it? Torres has 2 defeats in title fights before winning one. Which guys have lost more title fights before winning their FIRST belt?

    Jersey Joe had 4 before winning the Title. George Groves had 3. Ohashi lost 2 to Chang before moving down. Lupe Madera also (if you count draws). Brahim Asloum.

    Honestly, Pinky Silverberg (the forgotten Fly champ) might have to be looked into for this.
