I mean we went to war on Ali vs Mayweather (still going on) so why not Louis who also considered the heavyweight GOAT by many?
Louis is often in the top ten of historically informed ATG lists. Mayweather does well to get near the top twenty. Not a dig. Gradients of greatness.
I suppose you can make the argument that Floyd beat slightly better opponents. However, Floyd also tried to age people out whereas Louis didn't. Floyd may have a better resume than Louis (Floyd absolutely does not have a better resume than Ali) but on an all time P4P list, i rank Louis higher. And resume isn't the only thing that matters - dominance, overall fighting ability, willingness to fight everyone matters too.
Yeah when I resume I mean everything. Doesn't only have to win mean best wins. I should said who do you rank higher but it's done now.
Joe Louis fought all the top contenders in the 1930s: Max Baer, Schmeling, Galento, Carnera, Braddock, and Sharkey. The division was weaker in the 1940s perhaps due to WW II, but unlike Floyd Mayweather, Louis never avoided anybody.
Mayweather doesn't have a greater resume than Muhammad Ali. Ali never avoided anybody, and unlike Mayweather, he was never afraid to go to other countries to fight. He fought the best in their primes, didn't wait until they were old and faded, unlike Mayweather.
Who has greater resume than Floyd, in your opinion? And what is your ranking of best resumes of all time, if you have one?
Floyd beat the best through four divisions and won a title in another. Joe Louis stayed atop of one for less time. I’ll take the pound for pound fighter over the one division champ any day
