Who has accomplished more, Tyson Fury or Mike Tyson?

Mike Tyson is the most overrated HW ever.

He had a prime of 12-24 months where he didn't really beat anyone of note and that was all she wrote.

Tyson Fury has competed at the top level now for over 8 years and fought in numerous countries. Is the most belted HW champion OF ALL TIME. Has fought in 3 distinctly different styles which is UNSEEN OF, USEEN OF IN BOXING HISTORY. FROM A HEAVYWEIGHT. Super adaptable which is what boxing is about.

It's funny nowadays when people talk about comparisons with the greats (I don't mean Fury specifically, just in general), that if the modern fighter is said to be nowhere near the old fighter, it only takes maybe one more fight before the question is posed again!

I wonder if it's the fact that so much time goes by between fights? Perhaps fans are aware that their modern-day favorites are ageing at a far greater rate in comparison with the amount of fights they're producing?

 

Good question, since I have them both in a similar spot all time. Let's analyze their resumes:

Mike's best wins are over Spinks, Holmes and Tucker. Holmes was coming off of a 3 year layoff and was 38 years old, and Tucker had a hand injury. Spinks, while definitely being an elite win IMO, was still only a LHW. Even including Razor Ruddock wouldn't make Mike's resume all time worthy.

Fury's best wins are over Klitschko, Wilder and Whyte. I consider his wins over Klitschko and Wilder to be more impressive than anyone on Mike's resume purely for their dominance alone. Klitschko, despite being old, was still dominating the heavyweight division without much trouble. His big KO over Pulev was just a year before the Fury fight, and his war with AJ definitely proved that Klitschko was still an elite fighter. Wilder, despite his lack of technique, was able to take out an aged Luis Ortiz, which is still pretty impressive considering how skilled Ortiz is even to this very day. Fury's resume edges Tyson's.

 

At least Mike didn't trash talk his opponents and he always conducted himself like a gentleman outside the ring.

Right now? Close race. The whole career of Fury is based on beating Wlad and Wilder. While i rate both wins highly i don't think you can argue it's some great achievement. If Fury beats Usyk (maybe twice) we can talk again. I think Mike Tyson was criminally overrated as a boxer despite being a scary human being and vicious KO artist. I would pick Tyson Fury over Prime Mike Tyson every day of the week. Fury would probably knock Mike out cold. I don't think that would be a competitive fight at all.

Mike transcended the sport and became a household name the world over. Fury is forgettable. Nobody outside of boxing and maybe the WWE even knows who he is.

 

What a silly proposition. Mike had sixteen title bouts, and apart from Bowe he fought everyone that was anyone in the HW division in his era. Fury only had six title fights and three of those against the same flat footed one trick pony, and one against an almost 40 year old, 12 losses Chisora, while he keeps ducking Usyk and still hasn’t faced the vast majority of his notable contemporaries (Ruiz, Joyce, Joshua, Parker) even though he could fight against any of them if he really wanted to. Let’s face it, Fury is a weak champion with a paper thin resume.

 

How did Mike Tyson transcend the sport? The main thing he's known for outside of it was raping someone (Although I don't think he did)

Excluding from side gigs (including politics) very few boxers go outside of the sport to achieve much. Ali possibly transcended the sport in being a figure for humanitarianism (ignoring that religious cult he got groomed into as a young whipper)

Once Tyson Fury has become the indisputed unbeaten lineal god quintuple champion of the galaxy and conquered the MMA heavyweight division he will be regarded as the greatest fighting man in all of history alongside Sun Tzu, Spartacus and Charlie Zelenoff himself.

 

Who did Mike Tyson beat who would make Tyson Fury even get out of bed in the morning? Exactly.

To me a fight is not a fight in till there is resistance. Till there is something to overcome. Something to overcome

You're not in a fight in till there is pressure, resistance, overcoming something.

And I don’t think you know crap about somebody in till they’re tested

Because great fighters when the fight came to them they found a way to do what they had to do to be that

Not to be the aggressor
Not just to be those things

To be the titan
To be the viking
To be the samurai
To be the warrior

To be those things it has to be inside you. You have to believe it/

Because just like in other places in life when the moment comes for them serious things you have to know you’re IT. You say you’re the conquer, you’re alexander the great. When that moment comes when you didn#t Intimidate the guy and it didn’t work you have to believe you’re that guy and if you’re a guy that you do weak things and now you gotta do a strong thing how do you become strong? And you got a guy across from you who doesn’t give a SH how hard you punch you’ve gotta make him a believer because he’s going to make it difficult

When that happens you gotta feel like that person

And when you don’t feel like that person

And that is the reason why Tyson Fury is 50 times the fighter that even little Mike could dream of being yet people want to sit here and PRETEND that lil Mike has anything on his successor Tyson Fury? No.

 

Mike did more in one year than fury did in 10 ffs lol
