Calzaghe has been a better embassador for British boxing. Showing just like Lennox and Nas and many others before him that elite fighters can come from across the pond.

Hatton is a good embassador for boxing in general towards the mainstream because he is such a nice guy and has so many fans. In that respect Calzaghe is kind of **** with his talks of money and his padded record for so many years.

But as far as british boxing goes Hatton is kind of an embarassment. I mean people see this guy who is hailed as a legend with thousands of fans in the UK who spend all this money to see him work his creft. And he comes over to the US to get a dodgy decision against Collazo, get KTFO by Floyd head first into the ringpost, and completely demolished and walked over by a smaller man in Pacquiao.

Hatton. I really haven't thought about Calzaghe once since he retired.

Yeah. Hatton is an annoying joke to me. I was over the moon to see his bubble exploded. But I have to admit that boxing is in dire need for peple like him; fighters who can just get peple interested. And it's better that he tried and failed than sit on his title in Britain for a decade which would be an attractive option. You even gotta give him some respect for fighting Tszyu when he did. I know he'd already had 35 fights but he could have gone after an easier scalp.

I agree actually with most of this, do I think hatton was overrated for his era? yes to a degree, but i think 20 years from now we will have a favorable opinion of hatton over calzaghe, win hatton won the title he wanted come straight over and test himself, calzaghe hid under a rock most of his carear, a guy like him should have 2 loses atleast.....sure he was the better fighter then ricky, but calzaghe did jack **** for the sport compared to hatton, who took challenges and his unique fan base added to the sport in general, calzaghe is a bit laughable to me, but i give him credit where credit is due.

At the end of the day Calzaghe showed he was a much better fighter than Hatton and thats what matters most to boxing fans in the long run

He actually showed no such thing to US sport fans (perhaps you mean from the viewpoint of the British sport fans?). The consensus from Joe's two fights in the US (BHOP and RJJ) were that BHOP and RJJ needed to seriously consider retiring immediately (they were the focus of the US fans and the consistent comment from US sport fans who watched those fights was about how old they appeared and how far from prime they were now and how deteriorated they had become to be struggling with this unknown, unimpressive guy they were sharing the ring with in 2008)). No one even noticed Joe. He made zero impression and didn't gain any (material number of) US fans. His two opportunities to shine and make an impression failed miserably.

Ricky, on the other hand, is far more recognized (even with the defeats).

Hatton, but i think its because he finds it easier to talk to the public and the press than Joe.I agree Hatton got people interested in boxing and drew some massive crowds.Joe did have his momments just not as many.

Hatton because real boxing fans admire fighters who take the hard figths!! Not duckers like JC.

Its better to try and lose than to be a ducker and win. Thats why Ali is great!

I think both are/were highly overrated but I have to agree with the people who mention Hatton based on the fights he chose to take. He was actually willing to take fights against elite fighters when he knew there was an excellent chance of him eating turnbuckle or getting straight up dominated and KTFO. Calcrappy only wanted grandpas whos styles complimented his or fellow overrated fighters who disappeared of the face of the Earth after getting outworked by his slapfest style. Hatton is an easy pick here.
