I was having an involved discussion as to what does a boxer need to do in order to beat Mayweather and we couldn't agree as to who has given him his biggest test. Please vote and discuss. Also, if I missed any relevant Mayweather fight please discuss it. Thanks!
Castillo clearly. If it wasnt because he gave away all the early rounds he would clearly have won the fight, he did everything right except that he started to late
Castillo. I know Floyd was injured but Castillo was able to effectively pressure him in a way no-one else has. Augustus gave Floyd a good fight too - he landed a lot more shots than most. I'd say Oscar gave him a tougher time than Corley or Shane, who both landed a couple of memorable punches but were largely outclassed.
I still think beating Genaro Hernandez the way he did in only his 18th pro fight was extremely impressive. Genaro had never lost at 130 pounds. Don't know about "toughest," but given the circumstances many felt he was moving up in class too soon.
It has too be the first Castillo fight because I feel as do anyone who actually saw the fight that Castillo won. I think Floyd took more punishment though against Cotto than he had in any other professional fight he's had, even though I felt he clearly won the fight.
CaStillo gave him his ahrdest fight but I believe Corrales was the only time Mayweather was the underdog.
How anyone could have Castillo winning the first fight is beyond me. Castillo clear as day lost 5 out of the first 6 rounds.
hmmm between Castillo and Emmanuel Augustus. Most people don't know about this, Mayweather has always said, that Augustus was his toughest fight until Cotto. I only mention Castillo because Mayweather suffered a torn rotator cuff, in a fight he was winning, and then castillo's size, pressure, and skills... with that injury made it harder for him.
The fans :yep If by toughest you mean "most trouble" an opponent gave him for more than 1 round, I'd say probably Castillo I, or Cotto. Even the faded DLH gave him a decent fight.
