Aside from his punk ass attitude and fooling the boxing fans of his retirement but still comes back to fight, and also still keeping his untarnished record, I think Floyd did pretty well.

    Bernard Hopkins

    - no clear / universally recognized loss in the decade but extremely close/debated to Taylor (the top young fighter in boxing at the time) and Calzaghe (P4P#2)
    - wins vs. P4P-ers (#2 Tito, top5 DLH, top10 Tarver, #2 Winky, #5 Pavlik), and vs. other world titleholders (Holmes, Joppy)
    - titles picked up (IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO MW titles, first and only boxer ever to hold all 4 at the same time, + the LHW championship),
    - P4P#1 (2001-2003, 2004-2005)
    - finishing MW reign with close/debated loss & 20 successful title defenses
    - the way of victories (only one to stop Tito, knock out DLH, school Tarver and Pavlik from start to finish, heavy underdog vs. Tito, Tarver & Pavlik)
    - the age factor (all opponents being 5 to 17 years younger; fighting Taylor, Tarver, Wright, Calazghe & Pavlik 40+; being the oldest multi-division champion ever
    - displaying superb skills, great dedication, respect for the sport
    - an icon, also charisma, trash talk, bringing a lot of attention to boxing, charity and support for others (regularly visiting youngster, prison inmates etc, also http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slug=ki-negler110208 )

The achievements, display of skills, the dominance, the age factor and the character makes Bernard Hopkins my close but clear no1 fighter of the decade, but I'm not at all surprised to see more popular and hyped fighters winning the poll. But this should't be a popularity contest. In the sport of professional boxing, the 00s should be remembered for Bernard Hopkins.

You should have did an open (public) poll & wtf is Haye doing on the list when Morales & Barrera are not ?

Ps. Mayweather is the best this decade & its not that close - Pacquiao has the `greater achievements` tho but FMJ is the `best` fighter - which is what was asked.

Tough to call alot of fighterss hav a case....eg... pac, margarito, sugar shane, calzaghe, hopkins, wlad klit, DLH, Trinidad.

But u cant really luk much further than Floyd. I hate this man but nothin durin this decade can compare to his awsome defence and speed.
