    He probably means the amateurs.

Only way I can see a case for Tua is if you haven't actually seen the fights, and judge them on face value alone. Deserves no credit whatsoever for the Rahman win. Oquendo was schooling him, needed to rally against a green Maskaev, and Izon as well.....

Tua wouldn't have a belt in this era either........ Well..........that's not true. He'd smash Wilder  But I see no way he beats Wlad, or Povetkin.

So you really believe Povetkin would have beaten a prime Tua?

    I see that logic.

So Audley and Tyrell Biggs have better resumes than Tua as they won Gold and Tua won nothing.

By the way, Savon >>> Povetkin, as he won 3 Olympic golds and 6 world championships at amateurs

As for WBA belt. Do you agree that Wlad was TRUE WBA champion since beating Haye in 2011, and Sasha was really only #1 contender with that paper belt?

Tua has the slighty better resume but then that's to be expected, Tua fought in a deeper era and Povetkin hasn't even finished his career yet, so could surpass Tua by the time he retires. If Povetkin gets his shot at Wilder and does what Tua failed to do and win a title that would add a lot to his resume, even if it is only Wilder.

It is irrelevant what I agree or disagree with in such case. It is a fact that Povetkin won regular WBA World title and made 4 successful title defenses. That's what it says in Povetkin's CV.

Amateur or pro, David Tua didn't win anything.

He was never known for his skills, just a tough, limited, no-defense, come-forward fighter with power. A joke compared to Povetkin.

Tua was no joke. Surely, Povetkin is clearly more skilled. Tua was basically one-handed. But Tua was very dangerous, especially in rounds 1-3 and 9-12. Prime Tua rarely didn't catch his opponents with that left hook, and they were highly skilled operators like Lewis and Byrd. He still managed to get 4 wins over world champions

Yes because unlike a lot of "newer" fans who missed his fights as they happened in the late 90s, I've actually gone back and watched them. "Prime" Tua was far from this unstoppable force, he struggled with just about every good fighter he faced, even in fights he won. Other than Ruiz, and Moorer you can't find anyone respectable he beat without having to rally.

Had it not been for the after the bell punch against Rahman he would have more than likely lost a wide decision on the cards, rematch was an absolute robbery.

He was down several rounds to Oquendo, tied with Maskaev and Izon... Needed to rally to win those fights, and technically cheated to beat Rahman. Very lucky not to be 0-2 against him.

Schooled by Lewis and Byrd, lost to Ibeabuchi.... Went life and death with journeyman Jeff Wooden.....

So yes.... I really do think Povetkin could beat a prime Tua.

Also, if then WBA was the joke like it is now, Tua could and would've won its regular belt, too, and defend it against say Keith McKnight, Joe Hipp and old Tony Tubbs (like Povetkins Wawrzhyk, Boswell and shot Rahman).

Tua could have been a titlist in the 90s-early 2000s for sure with the right timing/opportunities.... He definitely could have beaten Hide, and Ruiz during his fraudulent title reign.

    Agree with you.

The reason I started this thread is to show that Povetkin isn't second coming of Joe Louis and Mike Tyson. His resume is not better than Tua's who never even won a belt (granted, its better than resumes of many beltholders like Valuev, Briggs, Lyakhovich, Seldon, Wilder etc.)

Povetkin is good, but the guy was never #1 HW and never will be. He beats Wilder, but gets beaten by Wlad again and by Joshua, too.

No. Tua by KO. Povetkin doesn't have the tools or the chin to deal with the Terminator in his prime...
