    In recent years...

    Jose Luis Castillo vs. Corrales.
    Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Vasquez.
Tito Trinidad vs. Hopkins (Not in terms of giving as good as he got of course, but in terms of sheer heart. Trinidad fans should be as proud of the effort he gave in the tenth round of that fight as any of his KOs.)

    Going a little further back...

    Tommy Hearns vs. Leonard I.
    Alexis Arguello vs. Pryor I.
    George Foreman vs. Ali.
    Jerry Quarry vs. Norton.
    Earnie Shavers vs. Lyle.

And the list goes on... pretty much every great fight has to have a great losing effort.

I agree with most of these, but Foreman's performance in Zaire doesn't belong.

He fought a dumb fight. Foreman was landing some good body shots, but leaving himself wide open and eating straight counters all night long. He kept swinging wider and loading up even more, despite taking all these counters.

This is the first post I have ever read in my entire life that actually gave props to Tito for giving it his all against the bigger better man in Hopkins, Instead of bashing Tito for getting destroyed. :good

I see your point. I just think that on that night Ali wasn't going to be denied by God Almighty. Also this fight is always near the top of my head since Classic reruns it every two days.

In the great tradition of weird ESB top 10 threads, it might make the "most electric one sided round of the past 20 years" list. Merchant's call was fantastic, the crowd realized what was happening... you bet I give Tito props for that. :good

I am very surprised that Trinidad got through that 10th round, Hopkins destroyed him in that round. Tito was all heart in that fight.

I was at that fight and CLEARLY Margarito got schooled. Never heard the pro-Margarito crowd cheer more than 5 times in that fight.

You don't have to go too far back peeps . . . Morales against Diaz and Amonsot against Katsidis should easily fit in.

Morales/Diaz definitely comes to mind. Nice final performance by Erik.

Plus, Kessler/Andrade. Damn that guy took a beating, and kept on coming.

Mancini v Arguello hasnt been mentioned yet. Arguello was hurt in the body and cut early in the fight but wore the younger Mancini down the stretch and knocked his ass out dramatically in the 14th. Kelly v Hamed was a little man's Hearns Hagler.
