Who has ever been as consistently excellent over a decade as Roy Jones was 1993-2003?

He weighed 199 against Ruiz. Didn't you see the video where Jones weighs his own self, because he knew there was no way he was as low as 193?

I'm still of the belief that whilst Jones was never going to be able to take decent amounts of leather, it was more a case of his legs deserting him post-Ruiz rather than him being 'glass jawed', and his ability would still see him through fights with 'great' fighters unscathed. It's pretty easy to dissect Jones' resume (Hopkins=green, Toney=weight drained, no-hopers and veterans) and has become increasingly fashionable to do so, but the period we are discussing was basically an exhibition if a phenomenal talent that for me, is somewhere between 25-40 on my list (probably 30-35 to be more precise) but in terms of ability (see:h2h) the man is top five no doubt.

An inimitable style: as idiots in Gyms the World over have no doubt shown :good

Decades are great. But Armstrong crammed a decade into four years. Look at that record. Wow.

Always hard to say. Jones was extremely effective, but Charles comp is much much superior in my opinion. I prefer his consistency over higher quality opponents (Even winning the quantity battle too). Jones becomes impressive with the HW jump and win too. The Pep one, on terms of sheer consistency is up their with one of the best streaks in boxing. Frankly, I don't know too much about the caliber of his opposition, nor the era and division too much. I know he had an insanely impressive win streak, and a great decade. The fact he beat Sandler post prime and post plane crash is amazing. He wasn't supposed to walk or box ever again according to some... Willie 'The Wisp' Was amazing.

I agree that Louis and Robinson were more impressive, especially the latter. What makes Louis run impressive is having the highest prize in sport. Beating the some of the names he did, and defending his title and reigning longer than any other HW champ. Robinson has more glamor on it. I think Willie's in terms of the consistent longevity is just a half step below these 2. Charles, though, rivals Louis in my view. It may be one of the closest things to match Robinson's. In comparison to Jones, it's all on the same level or better. Different depending on your interpretation of the greatness. Yes, it seems nobody can really match that sort of extreme effectiveness that Jones did till the 70's. Unless you consider Hagler's run, which has been mentioned and has its own kind of argument I guess.
