Meldrick Taylor. Go to Boxrec and look at the opponents records he fought when he first turned pro.

I dunno man, Ward won gold back in 04 and was brought along really slowly for a long time. Lately he's fought some big names tho. I was really excited in his olympic days, so it was painful to see him fight bums for so many years.

The thing about vargas was, the winnky, ike, ross and trinidad fights all happened in the span of a year. That is unbelievable.

Yeah but I'm more impressed when a fighter accomplished that in the Heavy weight. :D

Sugar Ray Leonard 1978-81. I honestly believe a number 0f the dozen guys SRL beat before he fought for the title would be beltholders today, though not particularly great ones. But Benitez and Hearns almost as impressive at that time.

Holyfield fighting a beast like Qawi in 1986!

Hopkins fought Taylor, Wright, Tarver, Calzaghe and Pavlik in a row, all P4P-ers (Jermain coming off that 1st Hopkins victory), though it was a rather long time run for Bernard.

Oscar fought Miguel Angel Gonzalez, Whitaker, Kamau, Camacho and Rivera in just 11 months, also Chavez (II), Quartey, Carr and Trinidad in 12 months and had other top quality runs. No one matches De La Hoya's opposition, 4 divisions and about 10 regining, former or future world champions in less than 3 years plus an Olympic Gold not long before this run. And some call him overrated! :patsch

Gamboa and Rigondeaux comes to mind, Davey Moore and of course neon Leon, but look at their careers how short they were, even Vargas and Reid were sort of short too. Gamboa and Rigondeaux is understandable, their careers are going to be short anyway, they came to the game a little bit to old.
