If this thread was in the Oz forum then there'd be a strong and unbiased :)lol:) case for Les Darcy to be ranked above the lot of them :!:

Langford is #1 for me. The definition of a p4p terror.

Greb is #2...I have more doubts about his hitting ability and perception from contemporaries.

Langford > Smith Jr. >>>> Greb
    1) Langford was a top welterweight 2 top heavyweight
    2) and more importantly was d most effective vs much bigger men (and d only 1 2 fight such men , and I don't care if Greb happened 2 draw against some much bigger guy on 1 occasion or 2) , Langford did it a lot .
Smith Jr. was usually d bigger man in his fights and except from very few cases in which he was also stopped 1ce , he also had a height advantage . Being a successful bigger man <<<< being a successful smaller man .

I tend to consider beating good fighters who hold significant weight advantages as vitally important in "pound for pound" ratings.
All three did that, but I reckon Langford and Greb did better in that regard than Robinson.

I'd probably rate Langford number 1 out of these 3.

Greb has an even better pound-for-pound resume than Robinson, IMO, but he fought a lot of "NO DECISION" fights that went the distance, so his record is more debatable than Robinson's, which is littered with KO wins.

There are other fighters who might deserve to be rated alongside or perhaps even above these 3 too.

But a lot of those no-decisions were considered clear and decisive wins, especially during his peak run (1918-1919).

Strictly speaking, to win a no-decision fight you need to score a KO.
I'm not saying that cancels out Greb's "decisive wins" in NDs newspaper reports, or his evident dominance overall, but it does highlight something slightly problematic in his record.
    (In my opinion.)

    1. Greb
    2. Armstrong
    3. Robinson
    4. Langford
    5. Charles

They're all essentially interchangeable, but I feel comfortable with Greb in the top spot.

    6. Duran
    7. Ali
    8. B. Leonard
    9. Barney Ross
    10. Willie Pep

Off the top of my head. Fitz, Walker, Moore, Joe Louis, Tony Canzoneri, would be the next 5 in whatever order takes my fancy that day.
