Most boxing fans do even today, they always put him down calling him small and had no skill. He cut weight when he fought to be able to last 20 rounds, today if he trained for 10 he would bulk up to 210 and destroy all the heavyweights. They would be in a panic when hooks are being thrown from all angles and they never stop.

Please Rocky is a great and iconic fighter. He is up there with the greats Ali, Louis, Dempsey, Holmes’s etc.

Still bums me out to think of it. Big loss for the sport.

    Anyway, good nomination.

Cardio and determination to match anyone.

However fighting today in the style he did in the 50s would result in him having more than his share of DQs or points deducted on his record, he definitely was a here comes my fist, if that misses my elbow will soon be a long with my head soon after sort of fighter, and felt a opponent is fair game to still be punched when he is down.

I say the above as a Marciano fan, what he achieved was phenomenal, he got away with his rule breaking so fair play to him, but his style would need a little smoothing in todays squared circle, or he would be back in his dressing room a little earlier than he planned..

The further back in boxing history you go the fighters had better cardio,it’s gone from unlimited rounds in a fight from the beginning of the sport fighting for hours on end in some cases to 15x3 and now modern day 12x3. Modern fighters have better training, nutrition and supplements as well as the referee playing a greater part but how many of todays fighters could go back and slog it out like the first prize fighters had to ?
