in no particular order i think the top guys are quartey, wright and de la hoya.

quartey i think was better than winkys because quarteys was brutal. his problem was he had no defense to take shots coming back to him. Wrights is a good set up tool and does what its supposed to. quick snap and brought right back to his chin. de la hoyas was quick, snappy and powerful also and set up those crazy combos he used to throw.

    those are my faves.

Quartey easily outjabbed Oscar in their fight and he was around 3" shorter. Not that Oscar didn't have a great jab, Ike is just on another level altogether.

    agree agree

Quartey is such a "what could have been" fighter if there ever was one.

As far as effectiveness, I'd put it between Quartey, Wright, and Klitschko. Those are three fights who can win a fight on nothing but the jab. Lewis's jab was good, too, but I wouldn't rank it as being in the best of the era.

Ike has the best jab I've ever seen period. You can even ask Oscar.

Wlad is close second. He destroyed Brewster and a host of other guys with it. Notice how he refuse to throw the right hand in most of his fights until the 5 or 6 rounds and then when they've tried to figure out the jab...boom lands the right hand.

Vitali but he uses it to set up rather than as a main weapon.

Id say either Klitschko or Wright. Oscars although good, was not really a trademark of his. Quarteys was good as well, but it failed him in his biggest fights. Id say from all of these guys Wladimirs is the best, simply because its powerful, fast and percise. Wright falls behind because his is not as powerful Pound 4 pound.

Andre Berto seems to be developing a pretty good jab. Possibly one of the best jabs of the upcoming generation.

For now I think the top 3 is Quartey, Wlad and Winky.

Right now it's Wladimir Klitschko no doubt.

    What about Floyd Mayweather?

Lennox Lewis had a somewhat eratic jab, against shorter opposition he used it as a ram-rod and enflicted some serious damage, at other times he seemed to use it merely as a range finder.

If we're talking about Kessler we should mention Calzaghe, he can look untouchable when boxing behind his jab, too often he is drawn into scrappy brawls when he could win easily fighting at range.

Joe Calzaghe. He has won fights, jabbing alone. But what makes Joes jab better than Quartey etc is how it complements the rest of his arsenal\ Calzaghe jabs is the perfect probing punch\

Calzaghe could beat a lot of pro fighters with his eyes closed, seriously. Just feeling them out with the jab, then distracting and opening them up with it.

We can't rate other fighters jabs better than Calzaghe's just because the rest of their game is weaker. Calzaghe has proven himself to have the best jab in the world, he is just such a brilliant all round fighter he doesn't need to rely on it at all.
