I think even though he punched the head off Margo for the first 6 rounds he lost the fight by not fighting the Style he has used his full career

He tried to basically fight like Floyd, hit and move counterpunch, he even tried to use half guard at points.

Margo fought the style he is comfortable in and Cotto didnt, even though Cotto is the better fighter he lost the fight because he chose to fight Margo's fight.

He never worked the body nearly enough which is his best attribute

:rofl Cotto dosen't have blazing handspeed, his hands are slow, his timing is amazin though which mutes this fact.

In the early rounds Cotto was able to hit Margo with rapid 2,3 and 4 punch combinations following ducking and weaving around and under Margo's inside work while back against the ropes, before circling away to his left and out of danger before Margarito could respond.

Someone with slow hands wouldn't be able to do that.

he didn't go to the body enough, in some rounds he didn't throw any body shots at all, he went for the head because margo was open for head shots all night and was able to land 5-6 punch combinations, it was a little too late when he found out that those head shots are not going to affect margo, usually in fights we are used to seeing cotto land 5-6 punch head and body combos.

also he could have held the high guard more and threw more jabs and straight shots.

    1. Jab more and jab some more.
    2. Fight in the center of the ring where Margo is far not the fighter he is when he has you on the ropes'
    3. Have a body attack, Cotto has a great great body attack and head hunted the whole night.

He should have held and clinched from the start of the fight. If he had done that he would have limited Margo's punch output. He also should have stayed off the ropes alot more. Margo was juts to big and strong for Cotto. I give boht fighters alot of respect. Pbf retired to avoid Margo and that is a fact. Cotto should have focused on body punchn alot more also.

agreed ... and add to that ... tie Margarito up when they get in close quarters, wait till the ref breaks them up and when be prepared to throw the 1-2 combo to offset his attack. After the break Margarito is going to walk right in so he's going to be open for a punch. No one has ever tied Margarito up or smothered him ... he might not like that.

keep them ****ing hands up or roll with the punches to lessen the effectiveness on them.

that double jab wouldve kept Margarito at bay ... he wouldn't have used any headmovement ... he wouldve just been walking into to ****.

When you have a guy that's as hittable as Margarito - it makes connecting with punches easier and it opens up other punches.

yeah i thought those 2 things would help out cotto....

especially the body work.. he was moving on his feet so much that he couldnt settle down on body work....
