It does make sense. Damien Hooper is a better amateur than Spence, but he got knock the hell out in 1 round not too long ago. The amateurs are important, but they're just one factor. Look at the Ring p4p list. I don't care if you don't agree with the list because I don't either, but I'm using it as an example. Floyd Mayweather Wladimir Pacquiao Ward Roman Gonzalez Rigondeaux Bradley Marquez Froch Canelo Only 4 of these guys won any type of medal in the Olympics. 3 of them are gold medalists. Yes the amateurs are important, but aren't the only factor. Berto beat Bradley in the Olympics, but he's no where near this list
Mayweather -top class elite amateur Wlad - top clase elite amateur Pacman - turned pro too young doesn't count ward - top class elite amateur gonzalez - turned pro to young, also his country has a terrible amateur programme, doesn't count Bradley - turned pro at 18 and had already shown a lot of promise, doesn't count Marquez - turned pro almost 20 years ago times have changed a lot Froch - top class elite amateur Canelo- turned pro at 15 none of these guys support your argument. fact is Lubin has proven more than Spence and his 6 years younger its easy for fighters to look fast and good against ****ty pro punchbags beating one of the p4p best amatuers at 17 is a greater feat same way Joe Ward beating Mekhontev at 17 is better than anything Marcus Browne has done so far
