Is it the style and sporting value of victory that counts, or the name itself?

If so, Foreman is miles above any other:
    Frazier, Norton, Lyle, Cooney, Moorer

if not, Ali: Foreman, Frazier, Liston, Lyle, Williams

If ur beating someone so bad they quit on their stool or the corner throws the towel that counts for something. These men weren’t being hit w pillow punches and laughing. They were unable to defend themselves or continue

Lol…. I guess that settled it then. I’m gonna use that one:

Other poster: “ Louis was past prime when Rock stopped him. “
Me: “ Joe Louis was still Joe Louis “

other poster: “ Azumah Nelson was green when Sanchez stopped him. “

Me: “ Azumah Nelson was still Azumah Nelson. “

I never knew it was that easy !!!!

    Joe Louis:
    Max Baer
    Max Schmeling
    Jersey Joe Walcott
    James J Braddock
    Primo Carnera
Would’ve said Sharkey over Carnera, but he was past his best.

He was a guy who it was almost impossible to stop for his entire career. He got thrown in the deep end early and took some Ls, but he didn’t get KTFO by anyone else.

Tex Cobb was surely better in his 20th fight than his 11th, but his chin likely wasn’t. Jimmy had defensive skills from early on from all accounts I’ve read and he danged sure had a solid set of whiskers. You notice other people who fought him early didn’t stop him.

Hey, Pat I just thought of something !!! Larry Holmes was the ONLY man to ever stop Muhammad Ali !! That means he has a better KO win that Foreman, Shavers, Liston, Tyson, Louis or Lewis !!

The point still stands- A 7-3 man is not a good look for Shavers' record, even if he was Jimmy Young, it's not like he had the greatest chin of all time. An uninspired Foreman had Young hurt multiple times, and that was likely his own best performance. If Young could get hurt badly by Foreman while at his peak, it's no surprise that a 42-2 Shavers could send him down flat when at the beginning of his career! We see later in their rematch, Shavers did not smash Young, but went 10 to a Draw instead (I've seen this fight be mentioned mostly as a gift decision for Shavers, but I haven't seen the fight, and I can't find footage for either of their matches on YouTube).

Foreman never put him down, so he wasn’t able to capitalize when he hurt him. Shavers took him out.

We are talking about an extremely dehydrated and mentally gone Foreman against Young at his peak, I'd sure hope that Shavers would be able to do better than him against a lesser version of Jimmy.

Are you suggesting Young had brain damage at this stage and was drained by popping thyroid medicine like jellybeans?

Ali was in no physical condition to fight vs. Holmes. Young had 10 fights, had been up through the Philly gym wars and was about to reel off (immediately after this result) an undefeated streak that took him to a title shot against Ali that many thought he won.

At the point Young fought Shavers, he had already fought a 10-round fight in Madison Square Garden. You’re acting like this was the first time he ever put on a pair of gloves. I’m not saying it’s the greatest KO in the history of boxing but he’s the only one who ever stopped Young except for many, many years later when Jimmy lost on a cut. Be better.

I think you’ll find George was ranked No. 1 in the world at the time he fought Young. He wasn’t dehydrated when he stepped into the ring … or or you saying they brought him in on a gurney? Geez.

I think you'll find that '77 wasn't exactly the most stacked year for competition. Ali was still champion in his old age and was just about to get dethroned against Leon Spinks. Names like Bobick, Evangelista, and Knoetze made the end of the year ranking, but you gotta acknowledge that even far past his best- Foreman still dominated, just as Ali did.
And ALL of us know the tale of this fight, Foreman didn't acclimate to the weather because he didn't fly in until a week before the match, not to mention that he hallucinated seeing God at the end of the fight. The men working with him said he was dehydrated, everything he has said around the incident hint at such, and we all know that a better Foreman would've beat Young. This ain't the hill to die on.

BTW, Larry Holmes has very good list of stoppage wins, especially for a guy that wasn't considered a power puncher.

    - Ali
    - Weaver
    - Smith
    - Cooney
    - Shavers

    Also:

    - Snipes (very durable guy);
    - Leon Spinks
    - Ocasio (went the distance against Lewis, Mercer etc), KOed by Holmes' jab
