There are fighters who have had amazing fights the first half of the year but may or may not have anything lined up at the end of the year. Who would they have to fight and beat to win such recognition? Here are some that stand out for me:

    1. Manny Pacquiao (beat Joshua Clottey)
    2. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (beat Shane Mosley)
    3. Juan Manuel Lopez (moved up in weight, beat Steven Luevano, Bernabe Concepcion)
    4. Fernando Montiel (beat Ciso Morales, Hozumi Hasegawa, will fight Rafael Concepcion)
    5. Sergio Martinez (moved up in weight, beat Kelly Pavlik)

I know there are probably many more so feel free to add to the list.

If Juan Manuel Lopez actually fights and beats Rafael Marquez and Chris John before the end of the year, then it maybe should be him - he will have moved up in weight and cleared out two titlists in one year.

If Andre Dirrell beats Andre Ward, he could get consideration for wins over Ward and Abraham.

If Alexander wins out this year and beats Bradley before the end of the year, he should get strong consideration.

If Fernando Montiel beats Nonito Donaire, then he deserves strong consideration for knocking off 2 P4P fighters.

Mayweather and Martinez are the front runners.

If Mayweather Pacquiao happens in November, the winner is almost certainly guaranteed this accolade.

Saying that...they should add this in to the contract, you never know...it might pursuade them to get the bout signed quicker.

I wouldn't put him in my top 3 right now, but I think Wilfredo Vazquez Jr deserves some consideration to be in the top 5. He stopped Marvin Sonsona in 4, and Zsolt Bedak in 10. If he and Poonsawat get together later this year at 122 we could see some fireworks!

no fighter who fights once a year should be in consideration for this type of thing

Martinez is the frontrunner at the moment, I mean he beat a prime, 178lbs Kelly Pavlik to a pulp for the World MW Championship in a division he doesn't even belong. That was supposed to be impossible. The other awesome performance was Fernando Montiel's shocker (I mean the way it ended) over the great Hozumi Hasegawa for the BW Championship, and you musn't forget about Pongsaklek beating Koki Kameda for The Ring FW Championship either. Obviously the Floyd-Pac winner, if the fight gets made, will produce the FOTY unless it's a bad decision, but Montiel and Martinez can still come up with something special.

    Besides Paquiao and Mayweather,

I think Juan Manuel Lopez has a very good chance. Here are the reasons:

First - he TKO's Steven Luevano in 7 rounds in his first fight as featherweight
Second - he TKO's Bernabe Concepcion in 2 rounds, a fighter that had never been TKO'd
Third - if he can TKO Rafael Marquez, who although worn, is a skilled fighter
Fourth - if he can TKO Chris John, an undefeated fighter who once beat the #3 P4P fighter

Why is Pac being considered for this title in almost everyones post?
    He fought Joshua Clottey.

Well, because Pac shut out Clottey in a way no one had done before.

Plus, he has a chance to face top names in the 2nd half of the year.
