Roy Jones: Conclusively Beat a young but still inexperienced bhop with one fully working arm. but bhop was still very good in those days imo. puled off a few impressive unheralded win especially when he won title sergio mercado

Jermain Taylor: Knocked Hopkins down in first fight but got very disputable decisions in both fights. also hopkins was probably struggling to make middle. some sat 2000-2005 were bhops prime years

Joe Calzaghe: Got a disputed decision over Hopkins at a weight that he is deffo strong at and has pulled some great wins at. hopkin had only beat winky wright a year earlier and put on a clinic against Antonio Tarver 18 months before.

Chad Dawson: forget the first fight. he beat hopkins very conclusively second time around thought bhop is not the force he was though that can be disputed as hopkin had put on a clinic a year before against jean pascal

I would go with jones myself based on rjj beating him beyond doubt with only one fully working arm

    Jones
    Dawson/Calzaghe

    Taylor

Tough to say on Dawson/Calzaghe. Chad won so much more clearly but it's difficult to say just how much better Nard was in 2008 than 2012, and whether or not it makes up for the difference.

Jones easily. By 2005 when he fought Taylor, it was already apparent that Old Man River couldn't compete for 12 solid rounds anymore without taking breathers and giving away rounds purely out of inactivity.

    Jones, and it's not close.

It's ridicolous to hear people make out like Hopkins was some starry eyed amateur at 28 with 20+ pro fights behind him. He'd become more experienced and tricky, sure, but his technique was fully developed and he was in his physical prime. And Jones was also a bit green at the time.

Hopkins would mature but he put in a good effort and Jones was one handed for most of the bout. He didn't lost after Jones 'til Taylor IIRC, just the draw in Ecuador at altitude.

    Clearly Jones.

Hopkins while green was still a good fighter at that stage.

Dawson beat a badly faded Hopkins. Calzaghe may have got the decision but in was in reality a close fight. Hopkins based upon his success after moving up was probably struggling with making weight as much as he was Taylor.

He only really lost two times. Jones and Dawson. Both weren´t in his prime but IMO Jones beating him was closer and more "dominant". Therefore Jones.

I had Hopkins beating Calzaghe and the Taylor fights a win for Hopkins and a draw.

I had Calzaghe-Hopkins 114-113 to Joe. That was certainly 'Nard at a better time than he was against Dawson so, despite the closeness and general sloppiness of the styles clash I give more credit to Calzaghe's victory than Chad's.

The difference between Hopkins '08 and Hopkins now is massive IMO. I honestly think he'll get KO'd within two fights if he carries on.

Pascal was a perfect fit for him. It was the only guy who he can probably match for stamina. They both fought in spurts so obviously Hopkins skill/nous would win it for him. I think these fights are very misleading when judging how much 'Nard has left.

Just remember how **** he looked against RJJ (2), one fight prior to Pascal.

In short, Calzaghe's win is far better than Dawson's.

Jones and Dawson were the only two people to ever truly beat Hopkins decisively as I see it.

Jones was most impressive. Easily, too.

    Similarly, I had:

    RJJ1 - 116-112 Roy
    JT1 - 115-113 Taylor
    JT2 - 116-112 Bernard
    JC - 114-113 Bernard
    JP1 - 114-112 Bernard
    CD - 115-113 Chad

I think there's a general consensus that Jones was most impressive, but that fight was quite dull and void of action. I believe Merchant even compared it to congressmen debating the annual budget if memory serves.
