What would you say was the best run of a boxer in their peak. Lets say no losses so the run must be start after a loss and finish at a loss (unless from first fight etc).
Over a span of 8 years, between the losses to Lamotta and Turpin, Robinson had around 90 fights without a loss, facing off against Kid Gavilan 2x, Jake LaMotta 4x, Henry Armstrong, Holly Mims, Bobo Olsen, Jose Basora, Georgie Abrams, Tommy Bell 2x, Sammy Angott, California Jackie Wilson 2x, Charles Fusari, etc.
yeah thats a hard one to beat. It was the main streak that got me thinking if i come up with something better. Ive been looking at some of the under the radar records such as Jimmy Bivins that saw him go on a 27 win run between 1942 and 1946 beating Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Lloyd Marshall, Joey Maxim, Lee Savold, Tami Mauriello x2, Anton Christofiordis and Oakland Billy Smith amongst others. Very impressive but it still dosent stand up to Robinsons on paper. I thought it was a lot of tough bouts in a row which impressed me and it could have been better had he been given the chance to box for a title. The run came to an end when he was beaten of Jersey Joe Walcott
Yeah, Ezzard's loss to Ray is generally considered a bad decision and was avenged with a knockout, so not counting that, his run was easily Robinson-esque and probably better. Moore, Bivins, Marshall, Louis, Walcott, Maxim, Ray, etc.
