Super post, but I was going to have a go at you for the last part about Calzaghe, and then I saw Carmela Melodica's thread in the Classic. Sometimes I'm embarrassed to be a Calzaghe fan. If Oscar De La Hoya had won all of his fights, he would surely have a claim at the greatest resume of all-time as he fought so many great fighters, but sadly he was on the losing end too many times.
You said it in reply to my post and I was talking about unbeaten fighters. And how do you come to the conclusion Moore has the best record?
Thread needs to be specified. Numerical records? Most extensive resume? A guy like Packey McFarland could easily make an appearance with his 102-1-8 record, while guys like Harry Greb, Sam Langford, and Ezzard Charles would easily make the list based on their opposition, despite the fact that all three have many losses for a variety of different reasons. You'd have to specify.
Based on the numbers, I'd go with Pep. 229-11-1 and 10 of those losses coming after he was in a plane crash, with the only loss before to Sammy Angott when he moved up to lightweight.
sugar ray robinson by a mile, beofre losing to lamotta the first time he was 40-0-0 after cleaning out the welterweight division, he then got revenge big time on lamotta and went on a 89 fight undefeated streak which spanned over many years at one point 128-0-1(a feat unmatched before or since) while consistently fighting some of the greatest fighters p4p of all time. wins over guys like lamotta, randy turpin, rocky graziano(underrated), Joey Maxim, gene fulmer, carmen basillio, henry armstrong. For alot of those fights he was very much past his prime and still getting the better of some of the toughest and greatest fighters of all time. this from a guy who made his professional debut at 130pounds
And dont forget retire heavyweight champ from 1803-05, Henry Hen Pearce the chicken game. 7-0 with 7 kos. That puts him number I. He has a 100 percent ko percent.
49-0 is pretyy damn decent with Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles x2, Walcott x2, LaStarza x2 and Joe Louis(faded) Have to give him his props, it is a great record.
Uhm ok, so their achievements aren't as great as I think? Leonard beat everyone that was around in his time (ie, there's many ATG's on his record) Ali aswell. Am I missing something?
