Another criteria to look at is, how many guys went on to regain titles after FM whooped them. That speaks to how good a guy was when they fought.

Leonard. Wins over Duran, Hearns, Hagler, and Benitez.

He would have accomplished even more if he hadn't had to retired because of his eye.

Leonard beat Hagler closely in that fight. No doubt about it. But I agree with you that Ray has one of the best records.

Grant and Botha? Are you serious? I mean: ARE YOU SERIOUS? You can find tons of grants and bothas in ANY champions resumes. Grant and Botha were as average as they come. Lets take a look at Shane Mosley's resume for example. Antonio Diaz was clearly better than Michael Grant and Luis Collazzo was far superior to Francois Botha. John John Molina was so much better than Grant or Botha that it would be even dumb to compare them. Leija, Rivera, Holyday all were CLEARLY superior to Grant and Botha. Hell, I'd even put Adrian Stone and Jose Luiz Cruz as better opoonents than those two

It's a great resume, but not the GOAT.

You can spin stats to make anyone's resume either positive or negative.

Absolutely nailed it. Robinson's record is astonishing. Even in his 40's and on the road it took Champions like Terry Downes and Mick Leahy to beat him. The first dozen years are simply unbelievable.
Armstrong was actually defending World Titles at 3 different weights !

Thing is if your gonna go on championships its a bit harsh on the classic fighters because in their era their was on championship and eight divisions. Had their been the same as today halfnof these guys would be muti weight champions with 50+ champions on their resumes.

Championships and weight just meant so much more back then and were massively harder to come by. Armstrongs three divisions would make him a champion over six different division at the same time in comparison.

Guys would go more fights than modern fighters career to get a domestic title shot, the differences are staggering.

Greb had nearly as many fights in one year as Floyd had his whole career, you just cant fairly compare these eras against each other. Too many variables.

I think this is a tough question as people over the years look at the names rather than the situation at the time.

I think Floyd Mayweather Jr has a great argument

Rocky beat everyone that he fought against. Simple as that. The thing that made me respect Rocky is his heart. Most opponents that Rocky knocked out them were bigger and taller than him.
