bailey, Why do you keep persisting with the above? You question whether members on here (including me) were watching boxing back in the late 90's/early 00's, yet you try and argue that the WBO was as highly regarded as the other belts. If you were watching back then, you'd know for a fact that it wasn't. Again, the likes of the Ring didn't even have ratings for the WBO which I proved to you a few months ago. Back in the 90's, you were considered the unified champ, if you held the WBC, WBA and the IBF. The WBO wasn't as respected as the other three, and in Joe's division, a guy was moved up the rankings after he'd died. Dino has brought that to our attention before. Go and watch the two documentaries on Joe, and hear the the thoughts of respected writers Thomas Hauser and Steve Farhood etc. They were a laughing stock back then. Also, your examples of Hearns and Leonard are irrelevant when discussing Joe's circumstances. Because they were superstars of boxing, and household names. Nobody cared that the WBO belt was up for grabs for their fight. People just wanted to see two great fighters fight their long awaited rematch. I agree with you that the fighter makes the title. But when Joe won the vacant WBO belt, he was unknown. So you'd got an unknown guy fighting for an organisation and a belt that wasn't respected. Nothing you say will change that. With the new influx of belts today, it's much more respected. But back then, it wasn't. Now you need to be truthful to yourself, and realise that Joe defending the WBO belt for as long as he did, cost him the opportunities of bigger fights earlier in his career. Because the likes of Roy and HBO, were never going to agree to fight an unknown, WBO belt holder from Europe, who fought in a different division, for no money. It was never going to happen, and it didn't.
Could you clarify what you mean, when you say that Taylor may have got Bernard at the right time? Thanks.
Bailey, Thanks for the replies, I'll have to get back to you another time. Hopefully it will be soon, but that's all I can contribute tonight, due to work commitments.
Bernard after those fights jumped up 2 weight divisions and never dropped back again. I wonder if Hopkins with age and having turned pro inside CW, even with such a disciplined lifestyle was finding MW a bit tough?
by replying to your post? so Loudon and Des are stalkers too then eh. Failey point. stop trying to distract from answering please. cheers Fai...I mean Bailey.
Loudon, No. Des, No. But Herol who seems to go round following me, thread to thread, post to post :-(. Many have noted you have obsessions, I just hope I dont have to be concerned. Maybe you are getting what you need with me replying and making you feel less irrellevant. I better stop
