for him to be basically the consenus p4p #1 his resume aint all that especially below middleweight....at welterweight the only great fighter he beat was Gavilan, and LaMotta only made his name off beating a 10+ pound smaller Robinson once but they had close fights....Charley Burley was the #1 contender at welterweight and middleweight for a decade and they didnt fight, also Cocoa kid, Lloyd marshall, Holman Williams were 147-160....he resume doesnt deserve a mention at all...his dominance is what made him so great:good

    \\

he was taller....height has nothing to do with man to man strength

LaMotta had been struggling to make middlweight for years before winning the title....SRR was taller but come on he started at lightweight how is he bigger than a natural middleweight:patsch

Thats what boxrec is for, no way I'm listing his 300 fights.

In summary, only stopped once early on in his career. Fought everyone from middle to heavy & is the only guy to beat Gene Tunney. Even after he was blinded in one eye he still kicked ass.

we're not talking 2 inches here he had a huge height and reach advantage and cut lots of weight, he was doing what donaire is doing now. Picking on little guys that don;t have a proper weight class.

70's-80's top MW's would eat SRR for lunch

He was tall for his time...most guys fighting at welterweight were 5'7"-5'9", but really he i dont agree with your last sentence...the robinson of the ST.Valentines day massacre or the 2nd Turpin fights beat Nino Benvenuti, Rodrigo Valdez,Antuofermo, Emile Griffith, Tommy Hearns, Ray Leonard, Hugo Corro, Bennie Briscoe etc....only guys he is would struggle with or even lose to were Monzon or Hagler...a prime Michael Nunn would have been a stylistic nightmare...a southpaw, great reflexes, legs, very good chin, jab, underated power at his best Robinson would have had to knock his ass out:hey

i like this thread tho, you can tell how long people have followed the sport depending on how detailed you have to be to respond...most people on here dont watch anything outside of Mayweather and Pacquiao and their contemporaries....their were guys 50-90 years ago doing some amazing things in the ring....people forget McClarnin started as a teen beating real world champions at flyweight and only title he won was the true welterweight title....what Manny is being called unprecedented for

Canzoneri, Armstrong, McClarnin, Greb, Georges Carpentier(only man to compete in each division with success actually fought dempsey while lightheavyweight champ) while fighting champions not trinket holders

Ali's depth is one of the best you'll find on any single-division man

Ali - Liston 2x, Foreman, Frazier 2x, Patterson 2x, Norton 2x, Quarry 2x, Terrell, Folley, Mathis, Young, Lyle, Ellis, Bonavena, Shavers, Chuvalo 2x, Spinks, Mildenberger, Jones, Cooper 2x, Bugner, Williams, B. Foster, M. Foster, Moore, etc.
