Not much to say. I'm just curious to see what people think. I was looking at the fighters currently at the top, up and comers at 175 and some fighters from 168. It's going to be difficult to beat him imo, unless he gets old over night. He could reign for a while unless he can't make weight anymore or like previously stated, gets old.

I'm going with Beterbiev because he may have the power to do it. Anyway Discuss.

Ward could probably do it. By jabbing his way. Kovalev would probably hurt him and land better shots.

    But the ring generalship...

Beterbiev but in a couple of years.
Right now nobody can beat him.

I'll say Ward, Beterbiev on paper would be my pick but he hasn't really proven himself yet.

Ward is so fragile. Doesn't this guy basically fracture his hands in every fight? Imagine if he breaks it against Kovalev, Kov would walk right through him (shoot he may do it even if Ward doesn't break his hand lol).

Nobody.. maybe alcohol. As long as he stay away from that he's just going to keep knocking fellas out.
Ward is an easy fight for him. Ward will never fight him.

Beterbiev has beaten Kovalev in the amateurs (controversially according to Sergey but still). They have a feud. He's the only one who can pull off a Vernon Forest vs Shane Mosley. He will pis s off Kovalev during the fight and that can make Kovalev go for a KO before it's time (with consequences). Although the opposite is just as likely. Beating Beterbiev won't be Kovalev's best win career-wise, but it will be his biggest win personally perhaps after Bhop. I would rank the opponents who have a chance of an upset in order of:

    1. Beterbiev
    2. Stevenson
    3. Mekhontsev
    4. Ward
    5. Gvozdyk
    6. Alvarez

Ward would lose, Kovalev is too strong for him.

Beterbiev beat Kovalev twice in the amateurs.. and his punches are tremendous. Stevenson would get krushed.

Yeah, nobody except Beterbiev... and the amateurs was a long time ago, Kovalev is a different fighter now.

huge gaps after Beterbiev who I expect to lose on a clear decision or late TKO.

    1. Beterbiev by walking him down in a bloody affair
    ...
    ......
    ....
    .....
    2. Ward by disputed decision in one of the most ugly fights in recent history
    ....
    .......
    ...
    ....
    3. Stevenson by lucky punch early on
    ...
    ....
    .......
    ...
    ....
    ...
    ......
    ....
    .....
    4. Mekhontsev making it a (losing) technical affair and then suddenly land big

don't bother with the rest. Gvozdyk maybe somewhere in the future if he develops in a very good way.
