Who has the best single win? Marciano or Tyson ???

Rocky over JJW I, Cos it was a fight.

 

Yeah, fans in the audience were starting to compare JJW to Joe Gans for what he was doing with Rocky. Tyson's most epic bout was his defeat to Douglas.

I think I'd also rate Charles I and Moore over any win Mike had. Marciano was no front runner. He could get up to win, and come back from behind.

 

Tyson had some pretty epic bouts. The Staggering knockout of Trevor Berbick, i
the utter domination Michael Spinks come to mind. I think they are hard to appreciate because we were expecting so much more. I think I still would give the nod to Rocky, his come from behind, Never Say Die knockout of Jersey Joe Walcott is movie worthy in itself.

Berbick had been blasted out in one by Mercado, and decked in one by Snipes, so it's not as if it was unprecedented for Tyson to do that, although Trevor was a pretty good scalp for dropping and stopping.

Everybody I knew expected Tyson would take out Spinks in one. At the place I worked with 800 employees, nobody was prepared to bet on any other outcome. Neither did anybody in my sister's law firm building in Boston which represented Hagler in some matters. (Most of them were male sports fans.)

These were not upsets or unexpected outcomes, but generally expected results.

Getting taken to the final bell by Tillis, Blood Green, TNT Tucker and Bonecrusher Smith were more newsworthy. Sportswriters were saying after Tillis and Green in back to back ten round decisions that Tyson's power was more comparable to Frazier's than Foreman's (as had been speculated prior to Tillis). At no time did any published article I read mention that Tyson's power could be compared to Shavers.

Mike Tyson's most epic bout was when his fist collided with Green's face in their street fight rematch, causing both to get broken. Immediately after, plans were discussed for a third bout, again in a boxing ring, but it fell through. However, it proved Tyson wasn't the baddest man on the planet, while Foreman may well have been. (Can you imagine even Mitch Green being crazy enough to try attacking George on the street? Foreman would have been like the Hulk with Loki in that Avengers movie. "Puny god!")

tysons unification wins are better than Marciano, mainly due to the fact Tyson was killing with apparent ease the best baddest biggest guys on the planet, when he was barely out of high school. It was unprecedented.

 

Shot Louis and shot Holmes are more or less similar wins in calibre. The biggest names ... but they WERE shot. Otherwise we're evaluating the likes of Spinks or maybe Frank Bruno against Walcott, Moore or Charles.

Frankly I'd say Marciano edges it.

But I guess that depends on whether you prefer the ease of the Spinks destruction over the name value of Walcott, Charles or Moore.
