It might be a tremendous upset, might be a truly great victory between two all time greats, it might the defining victory of a legend, but I ask you esb, who has the best victory ever? With the disappointment of the biggest names in the sport failing to put pen to paper, lets look back in time to when the best did take each other on and see if between us we can compile some sort of list. There are some good contenders in my eyes: schmelling famously said "i see something" when referring to a weakness in the armour of the legendary joe louis; ali famously beat the odds to knock out the formidable george foreman; hard to look past the beating robinson put on la motta; almost ten years ago the "too old" hopkins sensationally stopped the unstoppable felix trinidad; perhaps in the biggest shock of all time buster douglas incredibly halted iron mike tyson. History has seen some great matchups, some great upsets and some truly great performances. In my humble opinion, the best victory ever was when a lightweight brawler dared to take on arguably the best boxer since robinson, at his preferred weight. Roberto Duran famously took the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard out of his game plan to pull off not just one of the best upsets in history, but a victory in a matchup between two of the generations top boxers and two of histories top ten boxers. Do you agree, or is there a better individual victory that comes to mind? Let's ignore the bull**** failure of negotiations going on today, and journey back to a time when they did get it on. Which victory did it for you?
Say what you want guys butthe biggest upset is the best win therefore buster douglas is logically number 1. I love ali-foreman and duran vs leonard but knocking prime tyson the **** out as a 42/1 underdog is the best win.
In chronological order: Fitzsimmons over Corbett Greb over Tunney Greb over Walker Tunney over Dempsey Schmeling over Louis I Armstrong over Ross LaMotta over Robinson Frazier over Ali Ali over Foreman Duran over Leonard
Haye vs Harrison aka "chopper" Hands of stone vs srl 1 Tyson was mentally unstable when he fought Douglas.
It has to be Ali over Liston 1964, era changing victory the birth of boxing's biggest star, he shook up the world.
Frazier vs ali is a good shout. And I agree knocking out a prime tyson is amazing, but is it as good as winning a points decision over leonard?
