Ali-Foreman, who could thought Ali could beat Foreman? Pac-Dela Hoya, who could thought Pacquiao could beat Dela Hoya? Corrales-Castillo I, who could thought Corrales could still won against Castillo in the tenth round?
:------( them last 2 are nowhere near the level of those mentioned in this thread. however your last pick has just inspired me to rewtach the fight so i guess every cloud has a silver lining :good
1) Frazier vs. Ali #1, 1971. Great buildup and a great fight. I give it to Frazier, with the knockdown of Ali in the 15th round. 2) Pryor vs. Arguello 1 was an absolute beast of a fight.
the 3 standouts so far are duran - leonard, ali - foreman, douglas - tyson. surprising that people view ali beating foreman above frazier beating ali. then again i wasn't alive then so wasn't living through the hype and buildup. all i have is a retrospective view and for me, the greatest heavyweight of all time, losing his first fight in a massive undefeated battle, is huge.
That matchup should be in the top 10, but not the non-title fight. The Louis Schmeling II fight, was a buildup that involved whole countries getting into it. The Louis beating Schmeling fight was a title match, much more importance attached to it.
Well Luf, The reason i believe Ali over Foreman is a better win then Frazier over Ali cause Remember Frazier was the champion vs Ali and was also undefeated. I think Frazier wasn't a huge underdog going in that fight vs Ali while i believe Ali was a heavy underdog vs Foreman. Ali not only shock the world by beating Foreman but nobody and i mean nobody thought Ali tko Foreman. Ever since Foreman retired at 49 or 50, Ali is still the only fighter to tko Foreman.
Schmelling over louis could have been easily a top ten. But sanders over klitschko? Wasn't even a big fight at the time let alone in history.
Duran is my fav fighter ever and Leonard is my most hated, but even though I believe Tyson is somewhat overrated, nobody on earth gave Douglas a shot in hell against him just before it happened.
Well my friend, you got to think harder cause sure Frazier beating Ali was an upset but Ali tko Foreman was a far bigger upset.
Bigger upset doesn't mean better win. For example pacman was an underdog vs hoya and a favourite vs cotto. But I think everyone agrees his win over cotto is better. Being able to tko is fantastic. But being the first man to beat ali is even better.
