I would favor Cotto but If margo was a bit better on his feet i would favor him because presure is what takes to beat Floyd. Cotto however has everything it takes to beat Floyd....Doesn't mean i favor Cotto to beat Margo :)

Even if Mayweather put on a boxing clinic and Margarito only landed 20% of his total punches and only averaged a 100 punches a round (nearly 500 less than he threw against Clottey), that would still be 240 total punches landed and that would do significant damage to Mayweather. Coupled with all the punches that landed on Mayweather's arms and shoulders.

You make it sound like he will be hitting air like a whiffle bat, which will not be the case. Especially considering that Margarito throws punches from all angle, so it's impossible to completely slip them all. Mayweather may slip the 1st and 2nd, but what about the 3rd and 4th coming right after.

Mayweather would also been on his bike throughout the fight and that would make him tired too, because he most certainly wouldn't stand his ground like Williams did.

I hate this comparison because it's so far fetched. Baldomir is nowhere near the level of Margarito. He's always been a career journeyman who got lucky against a very complacent Judah. He fights nothing like Margarito except for the fact that he is constantly moving forward. His defense is worse, he's slower, has nowhere near the pop that Margarito has and doesn't even come close to volume of punches that Margarito throws. On top of that he is very basic and doesn't incorporate the wide array of punches that Margarito does from uppercuts to looping rights to body shots. No comparison at all, plus Baldomir was old as fuk, not in his prime Margarito.

Been said? By whom? Name some good examples. Margarito threw a compubox record against Clottey, a counterpuncher (with more pop than Mayweather and solid shell guard defense), so that theory goes out the window. Yeah, Clottey looked great for the first 4 rounds, but most people usually do against Margarito. Margarito took over in that fight and won a lopsided decision. Another excuse you will probably come up will be the Santos fight, another counterpuncher (a very good one, and southpaw at that, who was huge for the fight at 172), and he looked good early as well, but Margarito was coming on strong in the later rounds like usual. Santos won a controversial SD due to a butt in his hometown.

AND don't use the injury excuse, it made no difference. Both guys were injured in the fight (bruised knuckles for Clottey, sprained wrist and ankle for Margarito), it happens, it's boxing and it was only a bruised knuckle, extremely common in prizefighting, but a convenient excuse used to explain an ass-whoopin.

So clearly Margarito still throws punches in bunches against counterpunchers and wears them down as well. Mayweather is better defensively than those two, but he neither the firepower or size that either of them had to make Margarito uncomfortable at times, even still he was coming on strong (as he was in the Williams fight too).

but a volume puncher with a purpose? Cause many just throw for the sake of throwing... I think Coto would make for a better fight though

At this point, neither one can beat him. Cotto has better chance if one of them could.

True, Margo is so slow with his punches as well. Mayweather will have a field day countering him.

I personally think Cotto has a far better chance at beating Floyd than Margarito. His technical pressure and jab would really trouble Floyd and he has enough speed to compete. Marg is big, however he is sloppy and a fighter with very good footwork would force him to throw far few punches. His very limited defence could cause him to take alot of counters, while Cotto's defence is decent enough not to get caught continually. Marg lacks a definative jab, speed and is overall to sloppy to beat Mayweather in my view, Cotto on the otherhand has many of the assets required. Its definately Cotto in my view.

I really doubt he's having trouble sleeping right now over the opinion of a few people on an internet boxing forum.

Both would beat Void. Void refused big money to fight Margarito and he refused to fight Cotto. Void refused to fight Oscar in a rematch after Oscar beat him, but judges gave Void a decision.

Neither would beat him, but Cotto has the better chance.
