    Timmers,

Thanx for sharing your fantastic personel experience! Always love to hear firsthand from a qualified boxer like yourself!

My opinion is... I didn't see Ali follow through with the punch. Surely he would have to follow through to get at least some torque into it? Ali just tapped it out there and liston crumbled. The 2nd thing I have a problem with is liston acting like he was going to get up, the crumbling back down like he was on rubber legs. It looked like a complete act job to me no? I just feel Ali hit him with some harder punches in that first fight, and Liston did not go down. Perhaps the punch did stun liston, but enough to knock him down for well over 10 seconds? Nat Fleischer having the power to stop that fight was also bull****.

I agree with the notion that Liston went into the tank up in Maine............... Ali's anchor punch was NOT a KO punch thrown............. NO!! Ali was straight, but Liston was crooked in 1965........

NOW! Leo Martin really knocked the **** outta Liston later in '69 on ABC television with Cosell calling the heat....... That was solid.....

You said it yourself. Lyle was not any better of a puncher than someone like Cleveland Williams, but had Foreman down 2x and nearly out. Big Sluggers Nino Valdes, Mike DeJohn, and Cleveland Williams could not floor liston at all. I would say Liston has a more proven punch against big sluggers than foreman in his first career.

    Mr. Bill,

You are one weird dude arn't ya? What is with those ridiculous vitali threads you keep making in the general scene? Come on, I know your better than that.

As far as your above comment goes, I don't think anyone will agree with you foreman is leagues above Liston. Most rate Liston in their top 10. Top 20 is not an acceptable answer. I would argue Liston on his best night excels in every department better than Foreman does.

    F.Y.I.

If you review the tapes from 1969 and 1991, you'll see that Leo Martin tagged Sonny Liston with a straight right hand that decked Liston for the count..... Liston was out......

Later in 1991, come round 3 and, I believe round 9, Holy nailed Foreman squarely on the button in similar fashion, but Foreman only rocked and rolled; never went down or out........

It is safe to assume that Holy was a better fighter and puncher than that of Leotis Martin ever was..........

That's the key. If you think that Williams and Lyle have parity of punches then it's hard to make a case for Foreman having the better chin prime for prime, although most of the people voting obviously don't feel that way about those two. I think that making the call for Liston is definetly a big shout, a few guys have made them and that's fair enough, but me personally I don't see an awful lot to chose between them on the basis of the punches they shipped in these respective fights.

Lyle has a horrible record of punching agianst ranked men, but how many ranked contenders did Williams knocked out? Anyway, at their best, nothing between them for me.

    Gotta love Mr.Bill though.

In my book, the two ugly / iffy losses to Ali and that KO to Martin in '69, really hurt Liston's ATG ranking........

Foreman will always get the heads-up over Liston here in 2010 by the vast majority........... That's pretty factual.........

In truth, I believe I rank Liston at # 14 or # 15 as my ATG heavyweight list comes to mind....... Again, Liston was a great heavyweight, but he sucked as champion......

I favored Regan way over Carter back in '80 cuz Carter was a *****, while Regan was willing to kick some ass to get things done.......... I believe in the notion that you must crack a couple of eggs in order to make an omlette..... WORD!

Yes, Liston did a bit better against Williams than Foreman did against Lyle, but that was only one of the points.

I'd call Frazier every bit as hard hitting (at least), and more precise, than Valdes and DeJohn, but Foreman took his punches like nothing. Frazier demolished guys like Ellis and Quarry with that left hook, hurt Ali as badly as he was ever hurt, but Foreman took it like it was nothing. NOTHING Liston did ever impressed me as much chin wise.

But perhaps the best comparison is how they both reacted to Ali's punches. Liston was clearly staggered by the first clean right Ali landed, Foreman ate them like grapes before they started to really effect him.

Suzie, was this really necessary? You have of course no idea of whom I am or what my boxing experience may have been, but those who have put much of their lifes in boxing are generally more humble about it then those who just comment well on it. I will remember not to share my happenings with you again so you made your point sir.
