who has the better defense Pac or Paul williams?

Pacquiao easily. He actually has a guard aswell, which can be broken as shown early by Miguel Cotto, but it's better than anything Williams does defensively. Not to mention his range control and his ability to read punches is better.

Pacquiao's defense is ridiculously underrated.

 

Manny Pacquiao. His defense is decent and he's much more mobile on his feet which allows him to avoid a lot of shots. Williams has horrible defensive skills.

 

One of the most underrated parts of Pac's game is his guard. There were times when he just stood in front of Cotto picking off shots and Cotto didn't know what to do

We all know that Pac likes to throw punches and a bunch of them. We forget to notice his defense. Diaz, Dela Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, and Clottey know the answer. They couldn't seem to land those big punches they needed to put Pac down in the canvas. Clottey tried but decided to turn into a shell for 12 rounds, Cotto went onto retreat mode, Hatton said that Pac has the same move all the time and we know who went down, De la Hoya couldn't find Pac and decided to quit on his stool, and Diaz (he's a warrior for surviving that assault) couldn't find the target.

 

Pacman. Williams has no defense, he has length, if not for that he would get devastated every fight.

Paul Williams is one of the dumbest and easiest top level fighters to hit, especially against southpaws. He gives away all his advantages and is a sucker for counter right hooks and overhand lefts.

Pacquiao has improved immeasurabily in this department. His footwork is amazing and herky jerky style is very effective. Manny's elusiveness is underrated, especially if you look at where he came from, when he use to jump in with 6 straight predictable shots and walk into right hands.

 

Pacs defense is better but its probably more because of the way Williams fights, Paul has the attributes to be what ever he wants in the ring if he would work at it,as he's getting bigger fights and getting older we may see a refinement in his style,hopefully we do.Pacs is by no means good defensively,he eats righthands for breakfest seeing him in a fantasy match against Hearns would be some Ivan Drago Apollo Creed type brutality luckilly for him their isnt anyone with a fast leftjab and a big righthand with length.
