Which one has had the better career? I 'm not asking for a h2h match up between the two (even though they are roughly the same height and have a similar reach). Froch- Grooves I and II Taylor Kessler II Dirrell * (controversial, thought he lost) Abraham Bute Pascal Kovalev- Hopkins Pascal II Cleverly Campillo Alverez II Chilemba Ward I ** (controversial, thought he won) Carl has never been kod but hes had rather close fights with journeyman level guys like Glen Johnston, while nobody has really won any rounds off of Kov except Ward and Chilemba. There both 3x time world champs. Who do you got?
Froch id say, Incredible resume. You look through his career and it’s amazing how bitter he is given how much went his way- the dirrell decision, Taylor last round win, groves stoppage - he had so much go his way and he ended it in the perfect way. Froch is an odd personality but a great fighter, can’t be argued.
Froch might have lost against Dirrell, but I thought he beat Kessler in the first fight, He also beat Robin Reid. Kovalev lost rounds to Alvarez before he was KO'd something that never happened to Carl. I like Sergey but the better legacy is Carl Froch.
Froch would have recovered from the Alvarez knockdowns and probably beat him, that’s the difference I think - different heart.
Great thread, it's hard to say. I disagree with the OP on Froch vs. Dirrell. I thought it would be criminal if they gave that fight to Dirrell due to his running. On the other hand I agree that Kovalev easily won that first fight with Ward (8-4). I don't hold the second Ward loss against him that badly because he was clearly disinterested in fighting a man that he had just dominated and didn't train accordingly. Froch is probably leaving with the greater legacy, although we must remember that Kovalev isn't done yet. Better fighter however is likely Kovalev. Their respective handling of Ward is the evidence.
At the moment Froch has the better legacy. Let's see if Kovalev can get another good win or two though
Froch easily. I never saw him quit or get knocked out cold. Kovalev's best win was last night and Froch has a resume of wins on that level.
