No im being serious . Froch was dominated by ward. Where Kovalev. Dropped ward and was actually a threat to ward . Ward was confident against Froch. But ward actually was afraid of Kovalev some what
Froch was the first person to beat prime Jean Pascal, George Groves, Andre Dirrell and Lucian Bute. These guys are no joke, taking their 0's when they were at the top of their games was no easy task. Utter destruction of Lucian Bute who was at 30-0 and almost looked invincible at the time was particularly impressive. He also shut out the then such a beast Arthur Abraham. If Kovalev can finish his career the way Froch did, perhaps beating one of the champs twice, or a couple of defenses against top opposition like Browne/Ramirez/Jack/Yarde etc, then there might be an argument about whether it's him or Froch. But right now, it's Froch.
The question isn't who did better Vs Ward, it's who has the better resume. Froch clearly in my opinion
Kovalev and Froch are probably 2 of if not top 2 favorite fighters of the last decade, Maravilla Martinez being the third, so I can't and refuse to answer this one.
Legacy is something that should probably be assessed when a fighter retires. If Kovalev fought Frochs competition he'd walk though them all far easier than Froch did, I can't say the same the other way round. Froch was limited but had a huge heart, engine & will... He also had a stable team & family life around him. Kovalev has all the talent in the world but out of the ring he's been a bit of a **** up with many demons by all accounts... Kovalev is the better natural talent. Froch might have overall resume depth though... I'd have liked to have seen Calzaghe work Froch for 12 still though... Shame there trajectories never met.
Froch was as tough a warrior as they come. He gave us some epic fights and moments that will live long in the memory. For that I'm glad the Calzaghe fight never happened
Kovalev would beat the Jesus out of Froch and stop him H2H but Froch has been in a lot of memorable wars and it's a truly beautiful sight to behold when he rips SOB This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected “You’ve got to say he’s the man at super-middleweight but he’s boring, he’s a spoiler and I can’t get excited about him. I couldn’t go to sleep at night doing what he does. I couldn’t take any pride in that.” --Carl ''The Cobra'' Froch
The thing with Froch was, he was such an arrogant wind up merchant, that many of his opponents fought absolutely out of their skin cuz they'd be damned if they were gonna be beat by the Cobra. The first Kessler fight, Pascal, Groves 1 and numerous other fights showed Froch going in there with pretty much prime and often undefeated opposition and this lead to absolute wars with neither man wanting to take a backward step. Then there was the way he bounced back from defeat against the consensus number one in the division Bute. For a guy who was somewhat limited, the clinic he put on against Abraham was damned impressive. Inspite his less than desirable personality traits, I feel boxing is a little worse off without Froch whereas I doubt Kovalev will be missed nearly as much, even though I rate him highly and his win the other night has shown him to be a far stronger character than he was been credited with after the 3 straight defeats. If Kovalev was to fight and defeat a Bivol, Beterbiev or Gvozdyk in impressive fashion, there legacies will be pretty much inseperable.
As much as I dislike Froch.. you can not call Glen Johnston a journeyman. He was certainly top 20-30 at world level when they fought so a more appropriate term would be contender.
