This was discussed very briefly on a thread about Sugar Shane the other day, I thought it'd be worth it's own thread since I think Mosley and Calzaghe are two guys who must be rated pretty closely in all-time pound-for-pound terms, even by ardent fans of both guys.

OK, leaving your own opinion on their respective abilities aside, who do you think has the better resume?

IMO, Joe Calzaghe sneaks it. Why? Let us discuss and debate in the ESB tradition...

Somewhat agree,Mosley has faced more good fighters with mixed results and Calzaghe has faced a smaller number of good fighters but has beaten all

Mosely has the best win in oscar out of the 2, he was also dominate at 135, while joe was even more dominate at 168, however good mosely's wins over oscar are i would have calzaghe just slightly higher as he has more depth to his resume, kessler, hopkins, lacy, reid, eubank than mosely has and also does not have the losses that shane does

Calzaghe. They are in the same echelon as far as ATG's go, but Calzaghe would be a few places above.

Remember though - we're talking resume not overall p4p greatness. Your comment seems to only apply to all-time p4p rating.

Take away the De La Hoya wins (Mosley didn't even deserve the 2nd one) - what are you left with?

I don't think it does - if it does make sense then Freddie Pendleton has a better resume than Joe Calzaghe or Aaron Pryor or Floyd Mayweather or Bernard Hopkins or Shane Mosley or even Roy Jones. Pendleton retired with 26 losses.

Why dont you take away Mosley's wins against Philip Holiday, John John Molina, Wilfredo Rivera, Antonio Diaz, Shannan Taylor, Vargas, Collazo and Mayorga too?

Oh wait, I just told you what else you have as far as Mosley's record goes.

He also ducked no one and had a close second fight with both Viper and Winky.

mosley has the better resume but its a close one, he dominated that lightweight division in a way calzaghe never dominated the smw's, opposition was of slightly better quality also

    Mosley, definately.

But he has a surprisingly small amount of great wins. DLH 1 starts out. DLH 2 not so much, I think he lost it.

Forestt obviously is a big blip on his career. Vargas wins were good, not great. That's about it really.

The only good wins there were Holiday and maybe Collazo. Neither of them are great however. Other than De La Hoya, he lost 5 fights to the 3 best fighters he fought - Wright, Forrest, Cotto. The Cotto loss we can excuse him for as he was well past-prime. Vargas and Mayorga were both shot when he fought them - they were a far cry from the men that Trinidad beat years ago. Rivera, Diaz, Taylor - these guys were a long way away from being top class fighters. Molina was well past prime when Mosley beat him.
