Floyd Mayweather, Jr. or Bernard Hopkins?

Floyd Mayweather is great at boxing psychology. But Hopkins is masterful, the guy could have been a general.

Thats actually quite a difficult question & the answers are open to interpretation. Some would say Mayweather because he has been on top for so long others would say Bernard because of the way he has been forced to adapt his style with age.

Both are difficult to hit clean. Mayweather is better at avoiding punches whereas Hopkins covers up & uses clinches. Hopkins is good at pacing a fight but so is Mayweather. Mayweather can fight at a tempo when necessary but Hopkins can't really anymore.

Overall I would say Hopkins has the slight edge if we're talking purely ring smarts as he has been around so long & has been forced to learn every aspect of the game in order to still be able to compete at this level at his age. Floyd doesn'y have to use them so much as he is such a skillful fighter.

For me, Floyd has the better smarts and he doesn't need to bend the rules so much to get away with **** to make up for lack of ability in other areas.

Gotta love how yanks and nuthuggers think Hopkins has ring smarts and is a general for clinching and headbutting.

Ricky Hatton clinches and you'd think it's the most disgusting thing ever according to them.

That's what I'm saying. ;) I'm not being anti-American, but Hops cheats too much for me to give him the same kind of respect that Floyd deserves.

Thats a fair point actually. I guess it comes down to exactly what criteria we must set to define "ring smarts".

Lets not do this. Why not contribute something positive for a change? Just relax, join in the conversation. Not everything has to be an argument.

In the USA its all about looking good doing it. Not looking like sloppy, blatant and ******ed. Kind of why we like Mayweather. He looks good beating guys. He does not get slop bucket wild arm punching stoppage victorys like say your new god...Calzaghe....:D

I don't think there is anyone better than Hopkins at exploiting every mistake or making people miss with the limited skills he has at this point in his career. That's not to take anything away from PBF. I just think there is no one smarter than Hopkins. If Hopkins had PBF's raw tools, he would be even better than PBF is right now.

Ignore him mate. He's one of those people who has nothing to contribute other than name calling.
