Like i said, he was 41. He knows his body can't take that high a work rate. So he came in with a plan. Let JT tire himself out while figuring him out and then win the later rounds. He did this. And i thought he won the fight.

Hopkins is the smartest boxer in the game.

It is more technical-physical, not so much strategically wise... But Mayweather is always thinking too, another clear case of mind over matter. I always think of ring smarts as some sort of guile, tricky, almost dirty manoeuvres... Some of Bernard's moves are that smart that make me laugh... Even Roy detected and laughed about a first low blow on JT and Lampley didn't even notice cause Hopkins followed it with holding Taylor and punching him in the blind side of Nady.

I think PBF is a very smart fighter too. I just don't think that there is anyone smarter than Hopkins. You can obviously tell that PBF is thinking when he's in there. But the guy is blessed with exceptional raw talents. Hopkins is not and he's still beating P4P guys.

I'm not too impressed with Hopkins. He is clever in setting up up fights to where he has the upper hand. De la Hoya and Winky Wright come to mind. People praise at how he solved Winky, but come on. Winky didn't belong no where near the ring, even no where near an arena, at that weight when he fought Bernard.
Lets see Floyd fight Pac at 147... what do we think will happen.

Neither man is the cleanest fighter, but compared to Hops, Floyd is a saint.

Agree. Winky was a blown up junior middle. I am not impressed with Bernards win over him.

Yeah, but he did make Winky look like a much less effective fighter. He schooled Wink. Wink was the betting favorite. Wink was a guy who hadn't lost in 7+ years. He was a P4P stud. Hopkins completely neutralized his jab and make him miss that right hook all night.

True. Jones and Mayweather got more physical talent than Hops. All Hops has is a sneaky right hand and underrated quickness. When Hopkins has a performance like the ones against Johnson, Echols, Trinidad, and Tarver no one can diss his intelligence.

Winky had some sort of label of having an incredible punch output and an unstoppable jab that Bernard wouldn't be able to deal with. LOL. Birmingham to Winky after the first round "Careful cause he's very sneaky. Use your legs Wink cause the jab is not getting in". Bernard presses his left shoulder on Winky's right shoulder and tags him with right uppercuts and short punches. Winky had simply been had.

lol Sneaky is the best term to describe Hopkins. Very sneaky style. Like Mr. Deeds butler, after that first round, he must have been saying "I fear you are underestimating my sneekyness".

If Mayweather is still around when he's in his 40's, we'll have a an easier time judging this. Let's see if he can still beat top-notch guys when his athletic abilities have diminished and he has to rely on his basic skills more than he has to now.
