Who has the better SMW title resume... A Ward or S Collins?

    At SMW Collins beat -
C Eubank undefeated who has a fantastic SMW resume
C Eubank again in a return
N Benn who was a top SMW
    N Benn again
    Carr
    Brown
Seillier who had drawn with Rocchigiani and beaten Galvano a former SMW champ
    Cummings

Im not expecting many on here to know Carr or Brown. Carr was a game fighter who could box well and Brown was tough and I remember him nearly beating Cherifi who went on to become a WBC MW champ

    at SMW Ward beat -
    Kessler
    Froch
    Abraham
    Dawson
    Green
    Bika

I think the 2 wins over Eubank are notably greater wins than Froch and Kessler and think the 2 wins over Benn are notably greater than the Abraham and Dawson wins.
The Green and Bika wins are better than Carr, Brown and Cummings, but overall with the 4 main wins Collins has at SMW, I think Collins has the greater SMW title resume.

    What do you think?

    Ward

Froch & Kessler were better than the versions of Eubank Collins fought. Abraham & Dawson were probably better than the versions of Benn Collins beat.

Actually a pretty close call. I wouldn't have a problem either way with anyone's answer. 2 wins over Eubank and Benn as well is impressive.

Ward has cleaned out the division, something Stevo never did.

Stevo was a great fighter though, no doubt about it.

Why do you think Froch and Kessler were better than undefeated Eubank who has a resume far greater than either of those 2.
do you think Abraham on a run of 2 very clear S6 losses was better than Benn or that drained Dawson was better than Benn?

Dont sit on the fence now :nono

Ward didnt exactly clean out a division, it happened around him almost, as he didnt seem to want to face Bute, but Bute was beaten by a fighter who Ward beat. Ward got to fight Kessler who beat Froch and Kessler hadnt mixed in top class for about 3 years.
The division is in a weak era and just because Collins didnt clear out a division doesnt mean a thing about resumes. Eubank has a greater SMW resume than Kessler or Froch. Eubank is a better fighter full stop.
So forget about one clearing out a weaker era and look at who they fought and say who you think has the better SMW title resume

Eubank was never quite the same fighter post Watson 2. Collins was his 7th fight in 13 months & Stevo only just managed to beat him infront of a passionate Irish crowd. Kessler & Froch were better opponents & Ward beat them both very comfortably.

Benn was well past his best & coming off a loss. AA & Dawson were both better than the shell of Benn who Collins fought.

Ward is greater than Calzaghe and would have easily defeated him.

You could just as easily argue that Benn was well past prime when Collins beat him.

He beat Eubank which were great wins, but after that you're not looking at anythibng spectacular. He beat who was put in front of him but lets remember,he onloy evenr fought 8 fights at SMW.

    Eubank x2. Great wins
Benn x2 Benn was arguably past it.
Cummings. Was a high end club fighter, who never really did anything on the world scene.
Sellier: Good euro level fighter, also never really cracked the elite level.
Carr: Good Britihs level fighter, never fought on the world stage outside of Collins
    Same goes for Browne.

Its not exactly amazing. The Eubank victories were great wins, buts that 2 fights.

Benn was a good name, but its arguable at what level Benn was still at.

The rest were just regional fighters.

On the whole he had a fine career, and gave hell to the likes of Johnson,Kalambay and McCallum at 160.

Great debate bailey, it's clear that win lose or draw, Collins faced a higher level of opposition overall in his career.

At SMW, I think Collins wins over Eubank stand out as the best individual wins, but maybe Ward's resume has a bit more depth to it with Abraham and Bika - It's a shame that Roy Jones shamelessly and openly ducked Steve Collins, as that would have been a chance for Steve to show everyone how great a fighter he was.

    hmmm, ducked Collins?

    When?

When Stevo got in the ring and challenged Roy AFTER BEING RETIRED FOR 2 YEARS?

Collins and Jones were rarely ever in the same weight division. By the time Collins had beaten Benn/Eubank, RJJ was at 175.

In grew up watching Collins, and wanted that fight, but looking back, saying Jones ducked him is ridiculous.

How can you say Jones ducked Collins after He had beat up 2 of the guys that beat Collins?

Would you be afraid of Collins after you easily handled 2 of the guys that beat him?
