Who has the better SMW title resume... A Ward or S Collins?

...oh and thats ignoring that fact that when Collins did go back into training for Calzaghe(with a possible match up with Jones in mind), he collapsed in training and retired.

The fight couldnt have have happened ANYWAY!

 

Nah, i disagree. Froch is a warrior but he is not better than the version of Eubank that Collins fought.

I remember the SNES ha! My mate had one, and he was obsessed with Mario. I always had a Mega drive though. When I was 19, I moved into a flat with my ex. She was a big playstation fan. She bought me Prince Naseem's Boxing. I became obsessed with it. I used to play on it til 3.am even in the week. I used to be falling asleep at work the following day.

I love watching boxing documentaries in my spare time. There's so much stuff on YouTube now. I'm still watching Michael Spinks's career at 175. The last documentary I watched, was The rise and fall of Jack Johnson - Unforgivable Blackness. Have you seen it? It's in 2 parts on YouTube, and it's on for about 3 and a half hours. I though I'd check out the first part just to see how it looked. I was hooked. It's brilliant! It's been put together in such a great way. I thought it was fascinating. If you're interested, just type into YouTube, Jack Johnson documentary. It comes straight up. You don't need to type in the full title.

Yeah obviously Roy didn't know he was going to collapse. I just meant that it was for the best that he hadn't agreed to fight. A fight in the mid 90's at 168 would have been good. But Roy wasn't there long. Collins would never have refused the fight. He desperately wanted it. But I think he thought that he was bigger than what he was. I get that impression from the interviews I've seen, and from the links that I've read. He thought by beating Benn and Eubank twice that he was a huge name and he was equal to Roy. He was even talking about unifying with Roy, because he had the WBO belt. But he wasn't a big name in America. He's convinced that Roy ducked him out of fear of losing. He doesn't see that he was dismissed.

The reason Roy got defensive on that video, is because the interviewer walked up to him and said "Roy! People have been talking about you ducking Steve Collins! What's the deal?"

I don't think the fight is going to happen now. We haven't heard anything from Steve with regards to passing his medical, and the only thing that Roy has said, is that they haven't had a good offer as yet. It's been about a month now since it was talked about.

I personally think that the Ruiz fight would have been a better win than Collins. I don't want to disrespect Collins, but he wasn't a great fighter. He was a warrior, but technically he wasn't brilliant, and his claim to fame was defeating Benn and Eubank. Ruiz was by no means great, but he was effective, and he was a 220 pound heavyweight. Roy was only 26/27 when Collins first called him out. When Roy fought Ruiz, he was 34 and he'd had 49 fights. A lot of respected people tipped Ruiz to win. I'm certain that fighting a 220 Ruiz at 34, was a bigger test than fighting Collins at 168 at 26/27.

Roy was happy to fight Reggie, because it was to unify. I'm sure had Reggie have been younger in 1999, Roy would still have fought him.

We've discussed DM many many times. Roy knew he wasn't going to get that amount, and it was clearly said out of frustration, and that figure was for him to go to Germany. If you read the whole interview where that quote has come from, you can see that. He was frustrated because nothing had happened. The interviewer asks him what's happening regarding the fight, and Roy says "they say they want it, but nothing at all has happened!" Shortly after that is when he mentions the $12M. I've showed you links where DM's promoter turned down the proposed double header to promote the fight, which was a great idea, and the trouble that Kerry Davis of HBO had trying to negotiate with Peter Kohl. I've also recently read an article from 2003, with Murad Muhammad (Roy's former promoter) stating that DM wanted $6M, and he was making between $1-1.5M for each defence in Germany.

We know that after Kohl refused the double header, and wouldn't negotiate with HBO, that DM went on to fight Hall, Harmon and De Grandis. Roy says that DM turned down a $5M offer from HBO. They turned down $5M to fight Joey De Grandis for $1-1.5M.

From what I've read, Scully was working blindfolded, and with both hands tied behind his back. When he told the strength and conditioning coach his concerns, he was quickly told that he didn't know what he was talking about. Chad's a joke! He sacked Scully, and then publicly tried holding him responsible for the defeat. I'd love to hear Gary Shaw's opinion on things.

I don't put any blame on Steve whatsoever for the fight not happening. Me and Zod have discussed this on another thread. He knows that Roy messed him around and ducked/dismissed him. I love reading debates between the two of you. They're great! :good

he was retired and physically not able to perform anyway, couldn't even get into fighting shape, and bailey thinks he competes with the best fighter in the world.atsch

 

What are you going on about? How was Jones the best fighter? He would soon be named as the fighter of the decade and was generally regarded as the P4P best fighter on the planet after he easily destroyed Toney, who was considered by many to be the best.

Jones' victory over Toney was the single greatest victory at 168 ever. I can't ever remember such a high regarded champion at 168 getting outclassed so much... You probably were not watching back then, but it shook the boxing world.

Quit talking as if Jones was some paper champ hype job, he is an ATG, his resume puts Collins' and Calzaghe's to shame, his ability puts them both to shame even more than his resume does. He was on a different level, ability wise and what he accomplished.

What the hell does that circus of a fight in the works now have to do with Collins physical ability in 99? No one with a brain would compare it..
He tried to make a comeback, but wasn't able. You can't re-write history. I swear your foolishness gets taken to a new level with each post.
