    Calzaghe won the tilte from an ATG Eubank, who afterwards jumped two weightclasses and was competitive in a titlefight, so he was far from shot.

    He later defeated anyone in front of him and convincingly. No shady decisions, no robberies. He unified his titles against undefeated title holders twice. He gave one of the most dominant performances in a unification match ever. He beat Hopkins, ugly fight yes, bad decision no.

    Ruiz rarely won against quality fighters in truly convincing manner, was knocked out by a fighter who never held a title, was beaten by a mediocre Chagaev, was beaten by two former middleweights, got lucky with decisions more than once. No fighter from 3 - 4 weightclasses below 168, no matter how great, could have come up in weight an beaten Calzaghe.
