No he wasn't, not by any criteria other than WBC rankings.

As you again show, they were all underdogs because AJ was considered to have been the best HW around.

Hindsight is 20/20 since Fury announced his comeback AJ and Fury have lost 3 times each, but AJ avenged one of his. But regardless, Wilder never ranked above AJ and was never considered to be better than AJ.

Ring, Wilder was the highest ranked active heavyweight over a 518 day period.

That's in 2018, Joshua wasn't even a top 3 Ring ranked active heavyweight at any point in 2016.

Wilder was regarded as better than Joshua when Joshua was green and after Joshua lost to Ruiz. He's favourite to beat Joshua right now.

Yeah and Hopkins was favourite to beat Jones Jr in their rematch, that also means nothing.

You aren't even a fan of Wilder, I don't know why you're trying so hard to convince me he was ranked higher when everyone knows he wasn't.

It's not close at all. I know there a lot of fans out there who think fighters from certain geographical locations deserve extra points for being from them (and we see this all the time) but it doesn't actually mean they do

So much desperation spin doctoring to try and gaslight us into believing up is down and down is up

As said, AJ has fought far better competition as both a pro and an amateur in way less fights as a pro. Good wins for The Dosser are considered weak or weaker ones for AJ

    Amateur

    Cammarelle x 2
    Majidov
    Big Bang Zhang
    Joyce
    Whyte
    Wallin x 2
    Savon
    Dychko
    Nistor
    Frazer Clarke
    Kuzmin
    Pfeifer
Arjaoui <<< This is one of The Dosser's best wins in the amateurs

    Pros

    Usyk x 2
Wlad << ducked by The Dosser
Povetkin <<< ducked by The Dosser
    Parker
    Fat Andy x 2
Whyte <<< ducked by The Dosser
    Pulev
    Takam
    Martin
    Franklin
    Kevin Johnson
Breazeale << considered a strong win for the dosser
    Molina << ditto

AJ and The Dosser had roughly about the same amount of amateur fights but who was The Dosser fighting in his first 20 fights as a pro? He didn't fight anyone with a pulse until he'd had roughly the same amout of fights as AJ has had now give or take one or two fights and even then said fighters with a pulse were way past their best or shot to bits

You said that Wilder was regarded as "a joke" during that period as a titlist. If that were generally true and not just your stated opinion, Wilder would have been more than a 2/1 underdog vs 22-0 golden boy Joshua. Parker and Povetkin were not regarded as "jokes" and they were given far less chance than Wilder. Hence titlist Wilder was always regarded as a very serious and dangerous opponent for Joshua irrespective of his flaws, certainly not a joke. As well as the favourite to beat him today and the favourite in retrospect, which matters in terms of legacy.

You claimed that Joshua was the "highest ranked active heavyweight" when he won his title from Martin. That's incorrect as anyone can see:

    https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine's_Annual_Ratings:_2016

Joshua wasn't even top 3 among active heavyweights at the end of 2016, after he'd made 2 defences against Breazeale and Molina. Let alone when he won his title from Martin.

But you're too pig-headed and dishonest to admit you're wrong about there things and you will just ignore my refutations to regurgitate your nonsense so this will be my last reply.

"Arjaoui <<< This is of The Dosser's best wins in the amateurs"

Wilder beat No.1 ranked HW amateur Chakhkiev in Russia, who won Olympic gold months later and a silver in the world championships prior to that.

Wilder was regarded as a joke.

You're trying to use rankings I almost certainly input myself, I assume it's because you don't understand how those rankings work, I would say I'm certain you don't but I'll see if you can demonstrate any level of understanding about them.

Either way AJ will always be remembered above Wilder for the reasons I have already shown you

AJ progressed far quicker but I think Wilder had an excellent amateur career given his background. He won a bronze with very little experience. Sure his first thirty fights were against no hopers and he largely fought b/c level opposition for his entire title reign, but I think he showed in third Fury fight and 2 Ortiz fights that he's a world class heavyweight.

AJ has beaten much better opponents, but I still lean to Wilder having a better legacy given his heart and incredible power. AJ's loss against Ruiz for me weakens his legacy and his subsequent gun shy approach suggests he's still not recovered from it.

    I said was, not is.

Since the time period in question he went on to fight Ortiz twice and Fury thrice. Plus he's going into the Parker fight as a favourite.

But at the time he was regarded as a joke.

You've just joined the convo a little bit late mate, that's all

You are just one from group of ppl who they got fooled by Fury trilogy and try delete all other facts and judge Wilder career like there is nothing more better than get ass beating from number 1. You even try to not notice that there is boxers who looks better with Fury than him. Lol even MMA fighter with zero boxing fight...

Legacy is what u win not what You lost in good fashion. Joshua show in his career same level of heart for example in Klitschko fight when he faced one of the biggest puncher in Hw history but ppl got short memory and only remeber one lose.

You have no idea how many lost Wilder will have if he will fight like AJ with anybody.

Heart and power < big wins and more great names.

Yes he progressed far quicker, so much quicker he became a two-time three belt unified champ by the time The Dosser had fought anyone with a pulse

AJ had 8 more amateur fights than him but, as with the pros, he was willing to test himself against much tougher opposition from early on

He won a bronze medal beating two North Africans, the second of whom was a pretty decent amateur on countback 10-10

AJ didn't deserve to win gold but he had to go through killers to get to it, all of whom would've KO'd The Dosser

    Savon
    Big Bang Zhang
    Dychko
    Cammarelle

So much heart he ducked numerous fighters AJ fought at the drop of the hat

His heart is mainly just his boundless stupidity and delusion, believing he's a king of a subsect of the Black Hebrew Israelites on social media

AJ showed heart against Fat Andy in the later's backyard and against Wlad who The Dosser ducked

The Dosser doesn't have a better legacy at all. Just because he hits a bit harder and showed more heart losing to someone who throws a thousand arm punches and isn't a massive puncher doesn't undo the fact he's fought trash, trash which was fed to him by the Wilder Bodyguard Council who rigged their rankings in order to keep the gravy train rolling because America was desperate for a HW champion

They still had him ranked #1 in their rankings after he was coming off two back to back brutal stoppage/KO defeats in his backyard and were with the exception of one round one-sided massacres

His legacy is to be remembered as the biggest hype job of his era and in recent memory and for being Mr my cosplay outfit was too heavy, Mr. my trainer spiked my water, Mr. a billion other hilarious fantastical excuses

Joshua, it’s not even remotely close

Joshua’s win over Wlad overshadows the entire résumé of Wilder

    and that’s no exaggeration
