Joe, and its not even close.

Wladimir's competition is not better, not by a long way, infact Calzaghe's is stronger despite being "weak" by ATG standards. He has also failed to be KO'd by three mediocre, bordering on journeymen.

I'd have to say Joe, but it's hard to be too hard on Wlad because he has pretty much taken on all he can.

damn this is a good post.

wlad gets solid reps for being a legit heavy champ (in the eyes of many) now and the battle he had to have to recover mentally from the sanders fight - which is a big, big feather in his cap - and go on to beat peter.

but joe is (comfortably) the best super middle of his time - although never putting himself on the line to the same extent.

tough question but my answer is that both are hall of famers but not great fighters because of the obvious weaknesses-flaws in their career.

i think that part goes without saying.

i favour calzaghe to be remembered in higher regard than wlad though.

I don't see how it is JC so clearly...

Wlad has fought all around the world, he has fought legit contenders and champions since 1999, etc...

I love JC, don't get me wrong, but hasn't necessarily challenged himself until the Kessler fight. And, he has now just come to the states.

Either way, it will be Wlad when it is all said and done. He has about 6 years left of resume padding.

While this is certainly true, it's also a rather harsh oversimplification of things.

Joe Calzaghe and Wladimir Klitschko are both victoms of time in my honest opinion. One has had the luxery of fighting in the more prestigous division, but suffering a few bad losses, while the other has enjoyed an undefeated streak, but is lacking in having a true legendary name in his repetoire.

How do we rate these two against each other? The answer is, we simply don't. Both men's careers are still in progress, and what's more, rarely do we see these types of matchups between cross divisonal peers in past eras. Do we bother to start threads about Hagler being rated above Holmes? Not really.....

    Let time do the talking........

wlad- he's fought everyone he's needed to and continues to do the same. calzaghe had many fighters in his range that he never even considered. can't fault wlad for not being around during a time with a lot of great heavyweight contenders...but all that are out there he has fought or at least aspires to fight.

Calzaghe gets the nod when you factor in Wlads devastating kayo losses to Sanders and Brewster.

oh **** i thought this was regarding resume not legacy. obviously joe takes it on legacy as long as he doesn;t lose to jones jr.

It is simplified, but to coin a Calzaghe phrase...at the end of the day 3 knockout defeats to guys that are less than stellar must count against you in the context of legacy. Whilst remaining undefeated and always winning even on a bad night also counts for something, its an achievement in consistency.

That is without getting into the fine detail of who fought who of course. I don't have the energy for that, but the best fighters on Calzaghe's record are better than the best on Wladimir's; although Wlad's consistency of opponents is pretty good.

Calzaghe unified all the titles is currently a two division Ring Magazine Champion and cleaned out a whole division. Easy answer.

    it's an achievement in bloodsucking.

calzaghe talks out his ass every time he opens his mouth because he never wanted to fight ther best fighters that he could. he's a contradiction to teh very sport and i dont understand how anyone can buy into it if they've followed his career choices.

I just voted for Calzaghe in a thread, I can't believe it. I'm off to wash my hands.

However if he gets KO'd by a 39 year old my answer changes.
