Why not? Hopkins was coming off of a draw and a win over one of Froch's best win Pascal.Taking the 0 of one of the men at LHW in Cloud, and working over two other decent far younger guys in the division. Whereas all AA did nothing but go life and death with guys like Steiglitz countless times, Murray, De Carolis, and Paul freaking Smith twice, and that's when he wasn't getting dominated by Gilberto Ramirez and Chris Eubank Jr. Hell, at least Hopkins one loss around that time was against the lineal champion of the division. Abraham is one of the most overrated fighters of the last 20 years.

Froch - He wasn't actually a better boxer than a number of names on his resume but still found a way to win regardless. Kova is obviously much better and hasn't beaten anyone who he wasn't expected to in my opinion.

You can pick apart Froch's resume but if you do the same for Kovalev you'll just be called a hater whose pushing an agenda so there's hardly any point getting into a deep debate about it.

I rated Pascal 7/10 for Froch as i never rated him very highly.

7/10 for Kovalev and 5/10 in the rematch after coming off a fight he should have lost to Gonzalez.

Bute gets 8/10 from me. Hopkins is 7/10 since he was pushing 50

Great write up! Froch-Kessler 1 IMO was just as close as Kovalev-Ward 1. I thought Froch beat Kessler in that fight. I think we all need to go back and re-visit that fight some day, it was a great fight and underrated IMO. To be fair you make a compelling case for Kovalev but for me I still have to go with Froch.

    1.Froch
    2.Kovalev
    3.Kessler

Ironically Kessler ranks last but I think Kessler has the best win of the bunch with a win over a prime Froch.

If you give Kova the first Ward fight, it's him. If not, Froch has got more names. Kessler is considerably behind both.

    Froch hands down.

Nobody mentions how past prime Ward was against Kovalev, not to mention above his natural weight class. His reflexes and hand speed were really diminished, he certainly didn’t look like the same fighter who dominated 168. Froch lost to a much better version.

Kovalev has also fought the better set of fighters who were 175 pound fighters. I know Pascal, Cleverly and Ward started at 168 but all three were big 168's that would have naturally filled out at 175. Ward competed as a light heavyweight in the Olympics. Froch's wins over blown up Taylor and Abraham, one was an impressive last round KO and the other was probably his best boxing performance. To be fair, Abraham was top three SMW and did well out of it after the super six.

Also I like how people forget that Carl Froch fought Yusef Mack after Bute and having that on the resume amongst the other opponents he fought after Pascal glares out as odd.

Kovalev was older than Ward and his hand speed has noticeably declined since the Cleverly fight. Splitting hairs, Kovalev and Ward were about physically what you would expect for fighters on a slight physical decline in their 30s while still overall near their best.

Natural weight class...that doesn't even mean anything. People act like every weight class jump is Michael Spinks like. Ward simply filled out to Light Heavy as most fighters who start at 168 do.

Froch has the best resume. Kovalev the best boxer by a country mile.
