lennox. you know there's nothing going on behind those eyes. no thought, no fear, no nothing. it looks like he's just staring off into space.
the two that jump to my mind are: aaron pryor-complete with his glove pointed at his opponent. poor alexis. dude was badass. he beat tommy hearns as an amateur more than once. everyone has heard about how he schooled ray leanard in the gym, so bad ray ducked him his entire career. dude didn't just win he collapsed fighters. what time is it? hawk time. when he talked, he said it plain, he was trying to kill. not hurt. kill. now look at that picture again. pryor to me was the ultimate practitioner of the stairdown. unlike tyson who relied so heavily on his stairdown, it could've ended up being his own weakness. mike looked for the fear in his opponent whilst stairingdown. sure if you were steve zouski you were affraid of mike. however, once tyson got around to those who were unphased, ala buster, evander, and lennox, it became mike himself who was frightened on occasion into desperate actions. no. my second choice for stairdown king, just edging out sonny liston, is someone who also illustrates the
true worth of a stairdown. :clubber lang. that is a stairdown is without real value except at the box-office. nobody ever won a fistfight, bludgeoning their opponent with glares.
Again, why are so many people naming Tyson? He rarely ever got into the staredown stuff before a fight. He did like 2 or 3 times in his career. Do people actually watch his fights?
Yeah Tyson was always badass with his staredowns, and then he had to look at holyfield's cold-as-ice mug! Especially when they fought the rematch, i always feel like you can see this twinkle in his eyes like "holy ****, what now?" And indeed Pryor was in a class of his own where staredowns and intimidation were concerned. Although, if he'd ever squared off with Roberto Duran, you would've REALLY seen something. I doubt they would have even made it to the first bell!
Thirteen pages and no one's mentioned Iran Barkley yet. :-( Just look at his fight against Van Horn
